Taurus Venus and Virgo Venus compatibility starts with a simple count. Of the twelve Venus pairs that form a trine, this one turns up the most. A trine is a link between two signs four places apart on the zodiac wheel. Astrologers read it as an easy link. Here it joins Venus at full strength with Venus at her lowest rank.
We tracked Venus and the Sun from 1600 to 2400 to put numbers on this pair. This page gives the counts, the Sun signs behind each Venus, and what the old authors wrote. Read it as a lens for talking about love, not as a forecast. Astrology is not a science, and no study has shown that Venus signs predict how a couple will do.
Two earth signs: Venus at home, Venus in fall
Your Venus sign is the sign Venus was in when you were born. In astrology it shows what you find lovely and how you like to be loved. The old authors gave each planet a rank in each sign. A home, or domicile, is a sign the planet rules. An exaltation is a sign where it is honored. The fall and the detriment are its two weak places.

Ptolemy set out the homes, exaltations and falls in Book I of the Tetrabiblos. The word detriment came later, from authors such as William Lilly. Ptolemy gave Venus two homes, Taurus and Libra. He put her exaltation in Pisces and her fall, which he called her depression, in Virgo. His reason was about moisture. Venus is moist by nature, he wrote, so she gains power in Pisces, where the wet spring begins. Virgo stands for the dry autumn, so she sinks there. Mercury, the ruler of Virgo, is dry. The same logic makes Virgo his exaltation.
So one partner holds Venus in her own house. The other holds Venus as a guest of Mercury, in the one sign where Mercury is both ruler and exalted. A weak rank is a label from old books. It is not a flaw in a person. Here it means Venus speaks with Mercury’s accent: careful, exact, and a little shy of show.
A trine the old books praised
Taurus and Virgo sit four signs apart. That makes a trine, an angle of 120 degrees. In chapter 13, Ptolemy calls the trine and the sextile harmonious. His reason is that both signs are of the same kind. Here both are feminine, the old term for the earth and water signs.
Chapter 18 adds a second tie. Ptolemy sorts the twelve signs into four triangles of three. Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn form the earth triangle. He gave it to the Moon by night and to Venus by day. So even in Virgo, where she falls, Venus keeps a share in running the triangle in a day chart. A day chart is a birth with the Sun above the horizon.
The two signs differ in one way. Taurus is fixed, the middle sign of spring. Virgo is mutable, the last sign of summer. Fixed signs hold on. Mutable signs adjust. Among all 78 Venus pairs, this is the only trine that joins a fixed earth sign and a mutable one.
Do the two signs see each other? Two readings
Ptolemy lists other ties besides the aspects. In chapter 15 he names signs that “behold” each other. In these signs the Sun makes days of equal length. The trouble is that his text can be read in two ways.
The first reading uses whole signs. Frank Robbins, whose Loeb edition is the standard English text, lists the pairs in his note 83. Taurus and Virgo are on his list. On that reading, the two signs form a trine and behold each other too.
The second reading uses exact degrees. William Lilly, in Christian Astrology (1647), worked this way. Each degree has a mirror point across the solstice axis, called its antiscion. A degree of Taurus mirrors into Leo, not Virgo. Only the first sliver of Taurus mirrors onto the edge of Virgo. We counted the couples whose two Venuses sit on mirror points. Within 1 degree, it is 0.06 percent. Within 3 degrees, it is 0.49 percent.
So the answer depends on the reading. By whole signs, yes. By degrees, almost never. Neither reading lets these signs “command” and “obey,” the tie of chapter 14. In note 80, Robbins pairs Taurus with Pisces and Virgo with Scorpio for that one.
How common this pair is
Venus does not spend equal time in each sign. It speeds up and slows down. About every 19 months, it seems to move backward for six weeks, which astrologers call retrograde. Venus repeats its path on an eight-year cycle, so a short span of years can skew the count. We used eight full centuries.

Both signs sit above the even share. Only Cancer, at 8.62 percent, beats Taurus.
Now pick two people at random. What is the chance that one has Venus in Taurus and the other Venus in Virgo? The pair can form two ways, so we double the product of the two shares. The answer is 1.44 percent, or about one couple in 69. That ranks seventh of the 78 Venus pairs. Of the twelve pairs that form a trine, none is more common.
Which Sun signs sit behind each Venus
Venus never strays far from the Sun, as seen from Earth. We measured the widest gap at 47.28 degrees, less than two signs. So each Venus sign can only go with five Sun signs. The tables show the split, as a share of all people with that Venus.

In calendar terms, Taurus Venus people are born between about February 19 and July 22. Virgo Venus people are born between about June 21 and November 21. The two windows overlap for a single month, the month of Cancer.
One shared Sun sign, and it is Cancer
Look at the two lists. Only one Sun sign appears in both: Cancer. A Cancer Sun can hold Venus in Taurus, at the far edge of its range. It can hold Venus in Virgo, at the other edge. So these partners share a Sun sign only if both are Cancer.
How rare is that? Multiply the two Cancer shares, 8.73 percent and 8.65 percent. The result is 0.76 percent, about one couple in 132. In the other 131, the two Suns differ.
What does the typical couple look like instead? The most likely mix is a Gemini Sun with the Taurus Venus and a Leo Sun with the Virgo Venus. That covers 8.93 percent of these couples. Next come Gemini with Libra, at 8.66 percent, and Aries with Leo, at 8.56 percent. No single mix reaches one couple in eleven. So treat any “typical” couple as a lean, not a rule.
How do the two Suns line up? We grouped the Sun pairs by the angle between them.

Only one couple in four has its Suns in a trine as well. For the rest, the easy Venus link sits on top of a different Sun story. Read both.
Taurus and Virgo by Sun sign: not the same couple
Many readers land here because they are a Taurus Sun and a Virgo Sun. Does that make them this Venus pair? Not in most cases. Among Taurus Venus people, 24.03 percent have a Taurus Sun. Among Virgo Venus people, 23.66 percent have a Virgo Sun. Across all signs, Venus shares the Sun’s sign in 23.62 percent of birth moments. So for a Taurus Sun and a Virgo Sun, a Venus in each partner’s own Sun sign fits roughly one couple in 18.
Turn it around. In 42 percent of Taurus Venus and Virgo Venus couples, at least one partner has Venus in their own Sun sign. That ranks 12th of the 78 pairs. In 5.69 percent, both do. A free birth chart shows your Venus sign. If Venus sits near the edge of a sign, the birth time can decide it.
The trine in real degrees
A sign spans 30 degrees. Two Venuses four signs apart can be anywhere from 90 to 150 degrees apart. The true trine is 120. The margin allowed around it is called the orb. We used the real spread of Venus inside each sign to see how many couples come close.

These values are almost the same for every Venus pair, so they are not a trait of this couple. The edges tell more. At an 8 degree orb, 3.52 percent of these couples form a square by degree instead. Picture Venus at 29 degrees Taurus and at 0 degrees Virgo. The gap is 91 degrees. By sign it is a trine. In the sky it is a square.
How the tradition reads this couple
None of what follows has been tested. It is how the tradition reads the pair.
- Shared ground. Both love with deeds more than with speeches. A meal, a fixed shelf and a quiet night all count.
- Pleasure and polish. The Taurus Venus wants to enjoy the thing. The Virgo Venus wants to improve it first.
- Pace. Taurus is fixed and slow to change. Virgo adjusts fast and notes each flaw.
- The sore spot. Critique lands hard on a partner who loves through comfort. Vague praise lands soft on a partner who trusts proof.
A simple habit helps. Let the Virgo partner name one fix a week, and only one. Let the Taurus partner name one pleasure a week that needs no fixing. Each then gets to love in their own way.
Lilly saw a planet in fall as one that works harder for less. Read that way, the Virgo Venus earns affection through effort, and the Taurus Venus receives it with ease. The trine gives them a shared tongue. In the earth signs, love is shown in things you can touch.

What the evidence says
The largest test of sign matches used the 2001 census of England and Wales. The sociologist David Voas looked at 10.3 million married couples. He found no effect of Sun signs on who marries whom. A small excess of same-sign couples came from errors in the data. His paper, “Ten million marriages,” came out in 2007. It tested Sun signs only. No test of that size exists for Venus signs.
So a trine is not a promise, and a fall is not a warning. This page shows the sky behind the label.
How we measured
We used two methods that share no code. The first used the Astronomy Engine library. It found each time Venus and the Sun entered a sign from 1600 to 2400, to a tenth of a second, and added up the time. The second used the Swiss Ephemeris. It checked the sign of Venus every hour, on a grid set half an hour off the first. That is more than seven million points. Neither method drew random numbers. On the Venus figures, the two agree within 0.01 points.
Pair odds assume two people born at unrelated moments. The Sun pair figures multiply each partner’s Sun sign shares. The degree figures use the real spread of Venus inside each sign, in steps of a tenth of a degree. All values use the tropical zodiac, seen from Earth.
