Taurus Venus and Libra Venus Compatibility: Venus at Home Twice, With No Aspect Between

Taurus Venus and Libra Venus compatibility joins the two signs that Venus rules. Venus has exactly two homes, Taurus and Libra. Put one of each in a couple and the planet of love sits at home twice, in two different houses. No other pair of different signs does that. Yet the two signs are five places apart on the zodiac wheel. The old books gave that gap no aspect at all.

We tracked Venus and the Sun from 1600 to 2400 to see what else comes with this pair. Two facts stand out. These partners never share a Sun sign. And their most likely Suns both belong to Mercury, not Venus. This page gives the counts and the old rules behind them. Read it as a lens for talking about love, not as a forecast. Astrology is not a science, and no study has shown that Venus signs predict how a couple will do.

Why Venus owns these two signs

Your Venus sign is the sign Venus was in when you were born. In astrology it shows what you find lovely and how you like to be loved. Each planet has a home, or domicile, where it rules. For Venus, those homes are Taurus and Libra.

Ptolemy explains the choice in Book I, chapter 17, of the Tetrabiblos. He gave Cancer and Leo to the Moon and the Sun. Then he handed out the other signs in order of each planet’s distance from Earth. Venus got the next pair, Libra and Taurus, which he calls “extremely fertile.” Each stands two signs from a house of the lights. Taurus is two signs from Cancer. Libra is two signs from Leo. That spacing is the sextile, a friendly aspect.

His second reason is striking. Venus, he writes, is never more than two signs from the Sun in either direction. We checked this against eight centuries of sky. The widest gap we found between Venus and the Sun is 47.28 degrees. That is just over one and a half signs. Ptolemy’s rule holds.

Same ruler, two different homes

Partner Element and mode What the sign adds.
Taurus Venus Earth, fixed, feminine Touch, comfort and staying power.
Libra Venus Air, cardinal, masculine Fair play, grace and good company.

A mode is the part of a season a sign opens or holds. Cardinal signs start a season. Fixed signs hold its middle. Libra opens autumn. Taurus holds the middle of spring. Among all 78 Venus pairs, this is the only quincunx that joins an earth sign with an air sign across these two modes.

A Taurus Venus loves through the body and through time spent. It wants the good meal, the soft chair and the same walk each Sunday. Our page on Venus in Taurus covers this placement in full. A Libra Venus loves through balance and shared taste. It wants the room to feel pleasant and each side to be heard. Our page on Venus in Libra explains this style.

One rank tips the scale toward Taurus. In chapter 18, Ptolemy groups the signs in four triangles of three. Taurus sits in the earth triangle, which he gave to Venus by day and the Moon by night. Libra sits in the air triangle, which he gave to Saturn and Mercury. So in a day chart, the Taurus Venus holds a second rank. The Libra Venus does not. A day chart means a birth with the Sun above the horizon. Chapter 19 adds one more guest to Libra. Saturn, the planet of limits, is exalted there.

Signs that cannot see each other

Ptolemy counts four aspects: the sextile, the square, the trine and the opposition. Signs five apart form none of them. Modern astrologers call this gap a quincunx, an angle of 150 degrees. Ptolemy had a harsher word. In chapter 16 he calls such signs “disjunct” and “alien.” They split the circle into unequal parts, he says, while the true aspects split it evenly.

He names two more ties that could save a pair like this. In chapter 14, some signs “command” and “obey.” In chapter 15, some signs “behold” each other, because the Sun gives them days of equal length. Scholars read these rules in two ways. Frank Robbins, whose Loeb edition is the standard English text, discusses both in his notes 80 and 83.

  • By whole signs, Taurus commands Pisces and beholds Virgo. Libra is left out of the command scheme and beholds Aries.
  • By exact degrees, as William Lilly read it in Christian Astrology (1647), each degree has a mirror point. We counted the couples whose two Venuses sit on mirror points. For this pair, the count is zero.

Both readings agree. Nothing ties Taurus to Libra except their shared ruler. By exact degree, 16 of the 78 pairs are cut off this way; by whole signs, all 24 pairs one or five signs apart are. This is one of them either way, and the only one where both partners hold Venus at home.

How common this pair is

Venus does not spend equal time in each sign. It speeds up and slows down. About every 19 months, it seems to move backward for six weeks, which astrologers call retrograde. Venus repeats its path on an eight-year cycle, so a short run of years can skew the count. We used eight full centuries.

Venus sign Share of time, 1600 to 2400 Rank among twelve.
Venus in Taurus 8.59 percent Second of twelve.
Venus in Libra 8.32 percent Sixth of twelve.
Even split 8.33 percent One sign in twelve.

Pick two people at random. What is the chance that one has Venus in Taurus and the other Venus in Libra? The pair can form two ways, so we double the product of the two shares. The answer is 1.43 percent, or one couple in 70. That ranks 11th of the 78 Venus pairs. Of the twelve pairs in a quincunx, none is more common.

Two lists of Sun signs that never meet

Since Venus stays within 47.28 degrees of the Sun, each Venus sign goes with only five Sun signs. The tables show the split, as a share of all people with that Venus.

Sun sign Share of Taurus Venus people Note.
Pisces 8.65 percent Venus two signs ahead of the Sun.
Aries 28.68 percent Venus one sign ahead.
Taurus 24.03 percent Sun and Venus in one sign.
Gemini 29.92 percent The largest group.
Cancer 8.73 percent Venus two signs behind.
Sun sign Share of Libra Venus people Note.
Leo 8.99 percent Venus two signs ahead of the Sun.
Virgo 30.08 percent The largest group.
Libra 23.52 percent Sun and Venus in one sign.
Scorpio 28.37 percent Venus one sign behind.
Sagittarius 9.05 percent Venus two signs behind.

The Taurus Venus list runs from Pisces to Cancer. The Libra Venus list runs from Leo to Sagittarius. No sign sits in both. So the two partners never share a Sun sign. In dates, Taurus Venus people are born between about February 19 and July 22. Libra Venus people are born between about July 23 and December 21. The two windows touch but never overlap.

The likeliest Suns belong to Mercury

Which Sun pair turns up most here? It is a Gemini Sun with the Taurus Venus and a Virgo Sun with the Libra Venus. That covers 9.00 percent of these couples. No other Venus pair has this top Sun pair.

Here is the twist. Both Venuses sit in signs of Venus. Yet the most likely Suns sit in the two signs of Mercury. Gemini and Virgo are three signs apart, which makes a square. So the most common form of this couple has no aspect in the Venus layer and a tense one in the Sun layer. Next come Aries with Virgo, at 8.63 percent, and Gemini with Scorpio, at 8.49 percent. Less than one couple in eleven fits the top mix, so treat it as a lean.

Angle between the two Suns Share of couples What it means.
Quincunx 36.7 percent The same gap as the Venuses.
Trine 24.4 percent An easy link, four signs apart.
Opposition 18.9 percent The Suns face each other.
Square 14.0 percent A tense right angle.
Sextile 5.3 percent A friendly link, two signs apart.
Semi-sextile 0.8 percent Next-door signs.

About one couple in three has its Suns five signs apart, like its Venuses. For the other two, the Sun story differs from the Venus story. Read both.

Taurus and Libra by Sun sign: not the same couple

Many readers land here because they are a Taurus Sun and a Libra Sun. Does that make them this Venus pair? Not in most cases. Among Taurus Venus people, 24.03 percent have a Taurus Sun. Among Libra Venus people, 23.52 percent have a Libra Sun. Across all signs, Venus shares the Sun’s sign in 23.62 percent of birth moments. So for a Taurus Sun and a Libra Sun, a Venus in each partner’s own Sun sign fits roughly one couple in 18.

Turn it around. In 41.9 percent of Taurus Venus and Libra Venus couples, at least one partner has Venus in their own Sun sign. That ranks 19th of the 78 pairs. In 5.65 percent, both do. A free birth chart shows your Venus sign. If Venus sits near the edge of a sign, the birth time can decide it.

The quincunx in real degrees

A sign spans 30 degrees. Two Venuses five signs apart can be anywhere from 120 to 180 degrees apart. The exact quincunx is 150. The margin allowed around an angle is called the orb. We used the real spread of Venus inside each sign to see how many couples come close.

Orb Couples with an exact quincunx Reading.
3 degrees 19.01 percent About one in five.
6 degrees 36.04 percent About one in three.
8 degrees 46.28 percent Just under half.
10 degrees 55.62 percent Just over half.

These values are almost the same for every Venus pair, so they are not a trait of this couple. The edges tell more. At an 8 degree orb, 7.06 percent of these couples form a real aspect by degree. Picture Venus at 29 degrees Taurus and at 0 degrees Libra. The gap is 121 degrees, close to a trine. Now picture Venus at 1 degree Taurus and at 29 degrees Libra. The gap is 178 degrees, close to an opposition. By sign, both couples are cut off. In the sky, they are linked.

How the tradition reads this couple

None of what follows has been tested. It is how the tradition reads the pair.

  • A shared taste for beauty. Both like nice things, calm rooms and good manners.
  • Body and talk. The Taurus Venus shows love by touch and time. The Libra Venus shows it by words and fair deals.
  • Pace. Taurus holds its ground. Libra starts things, then weighs each side.
  • The sore spot. Taurus can seem stubborn to Libra. Libra can seem hard to pin down to Taurus.

A quincunx asks for adjustment, not a clash. Neither partner faces the other head on. They simply start from a different place. A practical habit helps. Let the Libra partner plan who you see and where. Let the Taurus partner plan what you eat and when you rest. Each then gets to love in their own way, under the same ruling planet.

The same signs through other planets and pairs

The Moon shows emotional needs, a layer apart from Venus. Our page on Taurus Moon and Libra Moon compatibility reads these signs through that layer. A Libra Venus faces an exiled Venus in Venus in Aries and Venus in Libra compatibility. It squares the most common Venus in Venus in Cancer and Venus in Libra compatibility.

A Taurus Venus meets a Venus in fall in Taurus Venus and Virgo Venus compatibility. It meets a Venus in exile, straight across the wheel, in Taurus Venus and Scorpio Venus compatibility. With a Leo Venus, it forms a square, in Taurus Venus and Leo Venus compatibility. Every pair of Venus signs is listed in our guide to Venus sign compatibility, sign by sign.

What the evidence says

The largest test of sign matches used the 2001 census of England and Wales. The sociologist David Voas looked at 10.3 million married couples. He found no effect of Sun signs on who marries whom. A small excess of same-sign couples came from errors in the data. His paper, “Ten million marriages,” came out in 2007. It tested Sun signs only. No test of that size exists for Venus signs.

So a double home is not a promise, and a missing aspect is not a warning. This page shows the sky behind the label.

How we measured

We used two methods that share no code. The first used the Astronomy Engine library. It found each time Venus and the Sun entered a sign from 1600 to 2400, to a tenth of a second, and added up the time. The second used the Swiss Ephemeris. It checked the sign of Venus every hour, on a grid set half an hour off the first. That is more than seven million points. Neither method drew random numbers. On the Venus figures, the two agree within 0.01 points.

Pair odds assume two people born at unrelated moments. The Sun pair figures multiply each partner’s Sun sign shares. The degree figures use the real spread of Venus inside each sign, in steps of a tenth of a degree. All values use the tropical zodiac, seen from Earth. Ptolemy is quoted from the Loeb edition by Frank Robbins, Book I, chapters 13 to 19.

Frequently asked questions

Are Venus in Taurus and Venus in Libra compatible?

Both Venuses are at home, since Venus rules Taurus and Libra. But the signs are five apart, a quincunx, and Ptolemy called such signs disjunct. No study shows that Venus signs predict how a couple does.

How common is a Taurus Venus and Libra Venus couple?

About one couple in 70, or 1.43 percent, over 1600 to 2400. It ranks 11th of the 78 Venus pairs and first of the 12 quincunx pairs.

Can a Taurus Venus and a Libra Venus share a Sun sign?

No. A Taurus Venus goes with Suns from Pisces to Cancer. A Libra Venus goes with Suns from Leo to Sagittarius. The lists never meet.

Which Sun signs are most likely in this couple?

A Gemini Sun with the Taurus Venus and a Virgo Sun with the Libra Venus, in 9.00 percent of couples. Both are signs of Mercury, and they form a square.

Why does Venus rule both Taurus and Libra?

Ptolemy gave each planet two signs in order of distance from Earth. Venus got the pair two signs from the houses of the Sun and Moon. He tied this to Venus never straying more than two signs from the Sun.
