Two Taurus Moons share more than a sign. In the old rules of astrology, the Moon is exalted in Taurus. That means it sits in its seat of honor. So when both of you have a Taurus Moon, the chart holds two Moons at full strength. Only two same-sign pairs out of 78 can say that: Taurus with Taurus, and Cancer with Cancer.
This page looks at what that rank means, how many couples have it, and what a real couple should check before they trust it. The numbers come from our own count of eight centuries of Moon positions. The method is at the end of each section, so you can test it.
First, a plain word on what this is. Astrology is not a science. No study has shown that Moon signs predict how a couple will do. The largest test of love signs, by the sociologist David Voas in 2007, used about ten million married couples in the census of England and Wales. He found no link between Sun signs and who marries whom. Nobody has run that test on Moons, because a census has no birth times. So read what follows as a way to talk about needs, not as a forecast.
What an exalted Moon is
Your Moon sign is the sign the Moon sat in when you were born. In a chart, the Moon stands for the private self. It is how you calm down, what you need when you are tired, and how you show care.
Tradition also gives each planet a set of ranks by sign. These ranks are called dignities. A planet in its own sign is at home. A planet in its exaltation is an honored guest. The sign across the wheel from each of these is a weak spot.
For the Moon, home is Cancer and the exaltation is Taurus. The Greek astronomer Ptolemy gives the reason in book one of the Tetrabiblos. He writes that the Moon, after she meets the Sun in Aries, begins to grow in the next sign. That sign is Taurus. Vettius Valens uses the same rank in his Anthologies. William Lilly lists it again in Christian Astrology in 1647, at 3 degrees of Taurus.

Be careful with the word. Exalted does not mean happy or lucky. It means the Moon does its job cleanly here. Its job is to hold a mood steady. A steady mood can hold calm for years. It can also hold a grudge for years.
How many couples have two Taurus Moons
The Moon crosses all twelve signs in about 27.3 days. Over the long run it spends almost the same time in each one. We counted every sign change from the year 1600 to the year 2400. The Moon sat in Taurus 8.33 percent of the time. All twelve signs land between 8.33 and 8.34 percent.
So the odds for a couple are simple. Take two people born at random moments. The chance that both have a Taurus Moon is 8.33 percent times 8.33 percent. That gives 0.69 percent, or about one couple in 144.

Why is a mixed pair twice as common? Because it can form two ways. Your Moon can be in Taurus and your partner’s in Cancer, or the other way round. A same-sign pair forms only one way.
Do not read more than that into the list. The gaps between the twelve signs are far too small to rank one Moon pair above another. The two routes we used below shift those ranks by up to sixteen places. The only split that holds up is same sign against mixed signs.
Same sign, but how close?
A sign is a slice of thirty degrees. Two Moons in Taurus can sit side by side, or nearly thirty degrees apart. Astrologers call two points in the same place a conjunction. They only count it as a true, tight link when the gap is small. That allowed gap is called the orb.
Here is how the gap between two Taurus Moons falls out. We assume each Moon can sit at any degree of the sign with the same chance. Our hourly count of real positions gave the same result.

So half of all Taurus-Taurus couples share the sign but not a tight conjunction. The sign-based reading still applies to them. The close, “we feel the same thing at once” version belongs to the smaller group. Only your exact degrees can tell you which group you are in.
Check both birth times before you trust the match
The Moon is the fastest body in the chart. It stays in one sign for 54.6 hours on average. The shortest stay we found was 46.9 hours, and the longest was 61.1 hours.
That speed causes a common error. On 43.92 percent of days, the Moon changes sign at some point in the day. A person born on such a day has two possible Moon signs. Only the clock can say which one is right.
Free tools that ask only for a date guess the hour. The usual guess is noon. Across 1600 to 2400, a noon chart gives the wrong Moon sign 10.98 percent of the time. That is about one chart in nine. For a couple, the risk doubles. In 20.75 percent of couples, at least one of the two noon Moons is wrong. That is about one couple in five.
There is a useful detail here. Since each stay lasts more than a day, a date can never hold two sign changes. So a wrong noon Moon is always off by one sign, never more. A “Taurus” Moon from a noon chart can only be a true Aries Moon or a true Gemini Moon. If you were born on a split day, check the hour. New Moon and Full Moon births in this pair
One number does differ from sign to sign, and it holds up in both routes. It is the phase of the Moon at birth.
If your Moon and Sun share a sign, you were born near a New Moon. If they sit in opposite signs, you were born near a Full Moon. For people with a Taurus Moon, 8.35 percent also have the Sun in Taurus. Another 8.04 percent have the Sun in Scorpio, the sign opposite.
Why are these not both 8.33 percent? The Sun does not move at an even pace. It moves slowest in early July, when the Earth is farthest from it. It spends more time in the spring and summer signs. So a Moon in Taurus finds the Sun beside it a little more than across from it. For Cancer the gap is widest, and for Capricorn it runs the other way.

What the old reading says about two Taurus Moons
Taurus is an earth sign. Earth signs deal with the solid world: food, money, touch, home. Stephen Arroyo, in his 1975 book on the four elements, ties earth to what can be seen and held. So a Taurus Moon finds calm through the body and through routine.
Taurus is also a fixed sign. The fixed signs sit in the middle of each season. They are read as steady and slow to change. Put two fixed Moons together and you get a home with a strong rhythm. You also get two people who do not like to be moved.
Venus rules Taurus. A ruler is the planet in charge of a sign, like a landlord in charge of a flat. Venus deals with pleasure and worth. So both of you soothe yourselves in the same way. You both judge care by what is done, not by what is said.
Here is how the reading plays out in an ordinary week.
- You keep the same Sunday meal for years, and neither of you finds it dull.
- A hard day ends with food, a bath, or a walk, not a long talk.
- You both pay bills on time. Money in the bank feels like a blanket.
- You both answer big questions slowly. Nobody rushes the other.
- Touch carries the message. A hand on the back beats a speech.
Where two steady Moons get stuck
Two exalted Moons are strong. That is also the trouble. Neither Moon bends much. When you both want the same thing, life runs smoothly. When you want different things, you can both dig in and wait.
Anger works the same way. A Taurus Moon holds a hurt a long time before it says a word. Two of them can live side by side with a quiet grudge for months. Nobody shouts, so nobody sees the problem until it is large.
Change is the other test. A move, a new job, or a baby shakes the rhythm you built. Two Taurus Moons need more time than most to find a new one. It is hard to see a trait in a partner when you share it. That is the blind spot of any same-sign pair.

How we measured it
We used two separate routes over the same window, from 1600 to 2400 in Universal Time. The first used the Astronomy Engine library. It found every Moon sign change to within a tenth of a second, then added up the exact time in each sign. The second used the Swiss Ephemeris. It checked the Moon once an hour on a grid set half an hour apart from the first. Neither route used random draws. The two agree to within 0.04 of a point on every share on this page.
The noon chart figures use noon in Universal Time. The pair odds treat the two partners as two random births. Real couples are not random, but nothing in birth data ties one person’s Moon to a partner’s.
