Taurus and Gemini sit side by side on the zodiac wheel. Yet in the oldest rules of astrology, they cannot see each other. Ptolemy called signs like these “disjunct.” They share no element, no link by angle, and no mirror pairing. Only 16 of the 78 possible Moon pairs are cut off this fully. Taurus Moon and Gemini Moon is one of them.
That sounds like bad news. It is not a verdict. It is a clue about how the two of you talk about feelings, and why you can miss each other’s signals. This page explains the old rule, adds the numbers from our own count of eight centuries of Moon positions, and ends with a check every couple in this pair should run.
One plain point first. Astrology is not a science. No study has shown that Moon signs predict how a couple will do. In 2007 the sociologist David Voas tested love signs on about ten million married couples from the census of England and Wales. He found no link between Sun signs and who marries whom. A census has no birth times, so no one has run the same test on Moons. Read what follows as a way to talk about needs, not as a forecast.
Two Moons that do not see each other
Your Moon sign is the sign the Moon held when you were born. In a chart it stands for the private self: how you calm down, what you need, how you show care.
In book one of the Tetrabiblos, Ptolemy lists the ways two signs can be linked. They can form an aspect, which is a set angle between them. The good ones for him were the sextile, two signs apart, and the trine, four apart. The hard ones were the square, three apart, and the opposition, six apart. Signs can also be linked as mirror pairs across the start of Aries, which he called “commanding” and “obeying.” Or they can mirror each other across the start of Cancer. He said those signs “behold” each other, because their days are the same length.
Then he names the leftovers. Signs one apart or five apart form no aspect at all. When they also have no mirror link, he calls them disjunct, or alien. Later writers use the word aversion. It means the two signs turn their backs to each other. Chris Brennan, in his 2017 book on Hellenistic astrology, explains aversion as signs that cannot “see” one another.
Taurus and Gemini fail every test. They are one sign apart. Taurus mirrors Leo across Cancer, not Gemini. Across Aries, Taurus mirrors Pisces and Gemini mirrors Aquarius. So the pair is disjunct in the strict sense.
What each Moon brings
The two Moons also stand at very different ranks. Tradition scores each planet by sign. These scores are called dignities. The Moon is exalted in Taurus. That means it sits in its seat of honor, the sign where it does its job most cleanly. Ptolemy, Vettius Valens and William Lilly all give it this rank. Lilly places the exact point at 3 degrees of Taurus.
In Gemini the Moon holds no major rank. The word for this is peregrine, which means a traveler far from home. It is not a weak spot. The Moon simply has no special help or harm there.

A ruler is the planet in charge of a sign, like a landlord in charge of a flat. Here the landlords differ. Venus wants pleasure you can touch. Mercury wants to name things and move on.
Stephen Arroyo, in his 1975 book on the four elements, reads earth as the solid, practical world and air as the world of ideas. That gap is the heart of this pair. The Taurus Moon feels first in the body. The Gemini Moon feels first in words.
How the gap shows up at home
Aversion is a useful picture here. It does not mean dislike. It means each Moon faces a different way. Each of you can offer care that the other does not register as care.
- After a hard day, the Taurus Moon cooks. The Gemini Moon wants to tell the whole story first.
- The Gemini Moon asks “How do you feel?” The Taurus Moon does not have an answer yet.
- The Taurus Moon shows love by keeping the house the same. The Gemini Moon reads that as a lack of news.
- The Gemini Moon changes plans three times. Each change costs the Taurus Moon real calm.
- The Taurus Moon goes quiet when hurt. The Gemini Moon fills the silence and makes it worse.
The gift runs the other way too. The Gemini Moon gives the Taurus Moon words for what it feels. The Taurus Moon gives the Gemini Moon a place to land. That trade works when both of you name it out loud.
Neighbors across the border
Here is a detail most guides miss. A sign is a slice of thirty degrees. A Taurus Moon at 28 degrees and a Gemini Moon at 2 degrees are only 4 degrees apart. By degree, that is a conjunction, the tightest link there is. By sign, it is still a pair in aversion. Astrologers call this an aspect “out of sign.”
How many couples does that touch? We assume each Moon can sit at any degree of its sign with the same chance. Our hourly count of real positions gave the same shares.

So for about one Taurus-Gemini couple in fourteen, the two Moons sit close together, with a sign line running between them. The two schools of astrology read that couple in opposite ways. Only your exact degrees can show if you are one of them.
The pair also forms a semi-sextile, an angle of 30 degrees. Ptolemy did not use it. It was added much later, and most astrologers treat it as a minor link. Within 8 degrees of an exact 30, it holds for 46 percent of these couples.
The pair a noon chart can blur
This check matters more for next-door pairs than for any other kind. The Moon is the fastest body in the chart. It stays in one sign for 54.6 hours on average, and never less than 46.9 hours. On 43.92 percent of days, it changes sign at some point in the day.
Free tools that ask only for a date guess the hour, and the usual guess is noon. From 1600 to 2400, a noon chart gives the wrong Moon sign 10.98 percent of the time. That is about one chart in nine. For a couple, at least one noon Moon is wrong in 20.75 percent of cases, or one couple in five.
Since each stay lasts more than a day, a wrong noon Moon is always off by exactly one sign. Now look at what that does to a Taurus-Gemini couple. If the Taurus partner was born late on a split day, the true Moon might be Gemini. If the Gemini partner was born early, the true Moon might be Taurus. Either way, a pair in aversion turns into a same-sign pair. Or it slides to a Taurus-Cancer pair, or an Aries-Gemini pair. So check both birth times. New Moon and Full Moon births
One number does change by sign, and it holds in both of our routes. It is the Moon’s phase at birth. If your Sun and Moon share a sign, you were born near a New Moon. If they sit in opposite signs, you were born near a Full Moon.

Why not 8.33 percent each? The Sun moves slowest in early July, when the Earth is farthest from it. So it spends a bit more time in the late spring signs. A Gemini Moon then finds the Sun in Gemini more than in Sagittarius. For the couple, 16.09 percent include at least one partner with Sun and Moon in the same sign. How we measured it
We used two separate routes over the same window, from 1600 to 2400 in Universal Time. The first used the Astronomy Engine library. It found every Moon sign change to within a tenth of a second and added up the exact time in each sign. The second used the Swiss Ephemeris. It checked the Moon once an hour, on a grid set half an hour apart from the first. Neither route used random draws. They agree to within 0.04 of a point on every share here.
Noon charts use noon in Universal Time. Couples are built from two random births. Real couples are not random, but nothing in birth data ties one person’s Moon to a partner’s. The Moon spends almost the same time in each sign, 8.33 to 8.34 percent. So this pair, like every mixed pair, turns up in about one couple in 72. The gaps between pairs are too small to rank one above another.
