Scorpio Moon and Scorpio Moon Compatibility: Two Moons in Their Fall, One Ruler Between Them

Scorpio Moon and Scorpio Moon compatibility pairs two people whose Moons sit in the one sign where the old books call the Moon fallen. Both Moons also answer to the same host, Mars. So the pair doubles a hard seat and shares a single ruler.

Only three of the 78 Moon pairs put both Moons in a weak sign. Two Scorpio Moons make one of them. That does not mean the pair is doomed. It means both partners start from the same place, and neither one supplies the missing weight. This page explains the fall, looks at the shared ruler, then checks the sky.

One thing first. Astrology is not a science, and no study has shown that Moon signs predict how a couple will do. Read what follows as a lens, not a forecast.

The pair at a glance

Question Short answer.
Distance between the signs None, both Moons share one sign.
Element and mode Water, and fixed, twice over.
Kind of sign A night sign, like the Moon itself.
Moon strength In its fall for both partners.
Ruler Mars for both Moons.
How common is the pair? About 1 couple in 144, like any same-sign pair.
How close are the two Moons? Within 8 degrees in 46 percent of couples.

A Moon sign in plain words

Your Moon sign is the part of the sky the Moon stood in when you were born. Astrologers read it as your private self. It is the part of you that reacts before you think. It shows what calms you and how you guard the people you love.

To compare two Moons, you count the signs between them. Here the count is zero. Two Moons in one sign form a conjunction by sign, the closest bond of all. Our moon sign compatibility guide sets out every other distance.

What the Moon’s fall means

Tradition gives each planet four special signs. The home is where the planet rules. The exaltation is where it is an honored guest. The exile sits opposite the home. The fall sits opposite the exaltation.

The Greek astronomer Ptolemy wrote the Tetrabiblos around 150 AD. In Book 1, chapter 19, he puts the Moon’s exaltation in Taurus. Scorpio sits straight across the wheel from Taurus. So Scorpio is the Moon’s fall. William Lilly, in Christian Astrology of 1647, goes further. He sets the peak of the exaltation at 3 degrees Taurus. The low point of the fall is the mirror spot, 3 degrees Scorpio.

A fall is not a verdict on a person. Think of a guest who arrives at the wrong party. It still works, but it has to work harder to be seen. In the old reading, a Scorpio Moon feels a great deal and shows little. It trusts slowly and keeps score of hurts. Our page on the Moon in Scorpio explains the fall in detail.

Three pairs with two weak Moons

The Moon has two weak signs. Scorpio is its fall. Capricorn, across from its home in Cancer, is its exile. Only three pairs of Moons sit wholly in those two signs.

  • Scorpio with Scorpio: two Moons in fall.
  • Capricorn with Capricorn: two Moons in exile.
  • Scorpio with Capricorn: one of each.

In the mixed pair, each partner brings a different struggle. The fall and the exile work in different ways, as Scorpio Moon and Capricorn Moon compatibility shows. Two Scorpio Moons bring the same struggle twice. They understand it at once. They also share its blind spot.

One host for both Moons

In Book 1, chapter 17, Ptolemy hands out the signs. Mars gets Aries and Scorpio. A planet in another planet’s sign is a guest, and it acts in the style of its host. So both Scorpio Moons hand their moods to Mars, the planet of heat and defense.

In a mixed pair, two hosts pull in two ways. That pull gives a couple a second point of view. Here there is only one host. Both Moons meet a threat the same way: they guard, they test, and they strike back if pushed. When things feel safe, that same heat turns into fierce care and loyalty.

Read as a symbol, the shared host is the pair’s strength and its risk. Both partners know the rules without being told. But when both feel hurt, nobody in the room plays the calm one.

The Scorpio Moon, twice

Scorpio is a water sign, and fixed, which means it holds a course. A Scorpio Moon feels in depth, not in width. It gives trust slowly and remembers for a long time. It shows love through loyalty and by staying close in hard times. When upset, it goes quiet and watches.

Two of them build a private world fast. They read each other’s silences. They share a taste for honest talk and a dislike of small talk. Both will test a promise before they rely on it. That testing, doubled, is where the friction lives.

Is the conjunction close?

A conjunction by sign is not always a conjunction by degree. A Moon at 1 degree Scorpio and a Moon at 29 degrees Scorpio share a sign. Yet they sit 28 degrees apart. Astrologers allow some slack around an exact angle. That slack is called an orb.

Orb allowed Share of couples with a true conjunction.
Within 3 degrees 19 percent of couples.
Within 6 degrees 36 percent of couples.
Within 8 degrees 46 percent of couples.
Within 10 degrees 56 percent of couples.

These values hold for every Moon pair, because the Moon spends close to the same time in each degree. With an 8 degree orb, fewer than half of two-Scorpio-Moon couples have a true conjunction. The rest share a sign but not a degree. For them, the shared sign is a shared language, not a merged mood.

Ptolemy’s other ties do not apply. His lists of signs that command, obey or behold each other in chapters 14 and 15 join two different signs. A same-sign pair needs no such link. It already shares everything a sign can share.

Four habits that fit the symbols

Here is how the old grid reads daily life for this pair. None of it has been tested, and a full chart can change every line.

  • Both name a hurt in one sentence, on the day it happens, before it becomes a file.
  • Both agree on one person who calls a pause when a fight turns hot. Mars rules both, so someone must hold the brake.
  • Both say what they need, instead of testing whether the other guesses.
  • Both keep promises small and exact. A Scorpio Moon trusts what is kept, not what is said.

Fewer new moons, more full moons

Here is a small pattern that is real. A person born with the Moon and the Sun in the same sign is a new moon birth, by sign. A person born with the Moon in the sign opposite the Sun is a full moon birth, by sign. For exact phases, see our page on moon phase compatibility.

Moon sign New moon births, Sun in the same sign Full moon births, Sun in the opposite sign.
Scorpio Moon 8.06 percent, Sun in Scorpio 8.33 percent, Sun in Taurus.

The cause is the Sun’s speed. The Sun moves fastest in the northern winter and slowest in the northern summer. It crosses Scorpio faster than Taurus. So a Scorpio Moon has fewer days to meet the Sun in its own sign, and more days to face it from Taurus.

There is a neat twist here. A full moon Scorpio Moon is born with the Sun in Taurus, the very sign where the Moon is exalted. In a couple, the lean adds up. 15.47 percent of two-Scorpio-Moon couples include at least one new moon birth, which ranks 66th of the 78 pairs. But 15.97 percent include at least one full moon birth, which ranks 15th.

If your Suns are both in Scorpio too, see our page on Scorpio and Scorpio Sun sign compatibility. For the way this pair courts rather than comforts, see Scorpio and Scorpio Venus compatibility.

How common is a double Scorpio Moon couple?

The Moon spends almost the same time in each sign. From 1600 to 2400, each sign holds between 8.331 and 8.336 percent of the time. So any same-sign pair comes up about 1 time in 144. A pair of two different Moon signs comes up about 1 time in 72, because it can form in two ways.

We do not rank the Moon pairs by frequency. The gaps between them are smaller than the error of our method. A double Scorpio Moon is exactly as common as a double Taurus Moon or a double Leo Moon.

Check your Moons before you read on

The Moon moves fast. It stays in one sign for about 54.6 hours on average, and between 46.9 and 61.1 hours. So on 43.92 percent of days, it changes sign at some hour. A person born on such a day has two possible Moon signs.

Many free tools guess a birth time of noon. That guess gives the wrong Moon sign to about one person in nine, or 10.98 percent. Two noon charts give the wrong Moon pair to 20.75 percent of couples, about one couple in five. A Scorpio Moon born early in the day could be a Libra Moon. One born late could be a Sagittarius Moon.

How we measured

We used two routes that share no code and no star tables. Route one used the Astronomy Engine library. It found every sign change of the Moon and the Sun from 1600 to 2400, each to a tenth of a second. It then summed the time, interval by interval. The noon test used a chart set at 12:00 UTC on each day.

Route two used the Swiss Ephemeris. It read the Moon’s sign every hour over the same span, on a grid set half an hour apart from route one. That makes over seven million points. Neither route drew random numbers. On every Moon figure here, the two routes agree within 0.04 points. All values use the tropical zodiac, seen from Earth.

What the research says

The largest test of sign matches used the 2001 census of England and Wales. The sociologist David Voas checked 10.3 million married couples. He found no effect of Sun signs on who married whom. A small excess of same-sign couples came from errors in data entry. His paper, “Ten million marriages”, came out in 2007. It covered Sun signs. No test of that size exists for Moon signs.

So the double fall is not a warning, and the shared host is not a promise. They are symbols. Two Scorpio Moons both guard their feelings and prove their love by staying. The symbols point to where that shared depth helps, and to where it needs words.

Other pairs to compare

The Scorpio Moon’s fall meets the Moon’s exaltation in Taurus Moon and Scorpio Moon compatibility. It meets the Moon’s home in a water trine in Cancer Moon and Scorpio Moon compatibility.

Frequently asked questions

Are two Scorpio Moons compatible?

Astrology reads them as a conjunction by sign, with both Moons in their fall and both ruled by Mars. They share a language but lack a counterweight. No study has shown that Moon signs predict a couple’s future.

Why is the Moon in its fall in Scorpio?

Ptolemy places the Moon’s exaltation in Taurus. Scorpio sits opposite Taurus, so it is the Moon’s fall. Lilly puts the low point at 3 degrees Scorpio.

How close are two Scorpio Moons?

They share a sign, but they sit within 8 degrees of each other in only 46 percent of couples. Within 3 degrees, it is 19 percent.

How common is a Scorpio Moon and Scorpio Moon couple?

About 1 random couple in 144, the same as any other same-sign Moon pair. The Moon spends almost the same time in each sign.

Do I need a birth time to know my Moon sign?

On many days, yes. The Moon changes sign on 43.92 percent of days. A noon guess is wrong for about one person in nine, and for about one couple in five.
