Taurus Moon and Scorpio Moon compatibility puts the Moon’s two extremes in one couple. In the old ranking of the planets, Taurus is where the Moon is strongest. Scorpio, straight across the wheel, is where it is weakest. No other pair of Moon signs sets the Moon’s best seat against its worst.

What no chart can tell you
Astrology is not a science. No study has shown that Moon signs predict how a couple will do. The largest test of love signs came from the sociologist David Voas in 2007. He used the 2001 census of England and Wales, with 10.3 million married couples. Sun signs made no difference to who married whom.
That test cannot be run on Moon signs, since a census has no birth times. So treat what follows as tradition plus sky data. It can start a good talk. It cannot score your couple.
The Moon’s best seat and its worst
Old astrology gave each planet a set of ranks in the signs. Ptolemy set them out in the Tetrabiblos around 150 AD. William Lilly repeated them in Christian Astrology in 1647. Two of those ranks matter here.
The first is exaltation. It is the sign where a planet is honored, like a guest of state. The Moon is exalted in Taurus. Lilly’s table puts the exact point at 3 degrees Taurus.

These ranks rate the Moon’s comfort in a sign. They say nothing about a person’s worth or kindness. A Moon in fall is read as feelings that run deep and hide well, not as weak feelings.
Why this pair is unique
Each planet has one exaltation and one fall, always opposite each other. For the Moon, that axis runs from Taurus to Scorpio. So a Taurus Moon and a Scorpio Moon is the only couple where one Moon sits on the high end and the other on the low end of the same line.
Other pairs mix a strong Moon with a weak one in a different way. Taurus and Capricorn, for example, joins exaltation with detriment, the sign across from the Moon’s home. That is a trine, not an opposition.

Taurus: what you can touch
The Taurus Moon calms through the body. Food, rest, touch and a stable home bring it back to center. It trusts what it can see and hold. It likes life simple and slow.
Scorpio: what lies under the surface
The Scorpio Moon calms through closeness and trust. It wants to know what is really going on, under the polite words. It keeps its feelings private until trust is earned. Then it bonds for good.
What they share
Opposite signs are not strangers. These two share more than most. Both are fixed signs, which means they hold on and do not change course lightly. Both are what Ptolemy called feminine signs, a label for receptive signs, not for gender. Their elements get along in the usual grid, since earth and water are read as a good mix.
Among the 78 Moon pairs, this is the only opposition between earth and water in two fixed signs. The mirror pair, Leo and Aquarius, is the fire and air version.
Where they pull apart
The opposition shows up as a tug between two kinds of safety. For the Taurus Moon, safety is what is on the surface: a calm day, a full fridge. For the Scorpio Moon, safety is what is underneath: honesty, loyalty, no secrets.
So one partner might say “all is fine” and mean it. The other might hear “all is fine” and look for what is not. Both are loyal, and both are stubborn. Ptolemy counted the opposition among the hard aspects. Modern writers read it as attraction with friction.
The Sun twist: Taurus Suns on both sides
Here is the fact we measured. It links each Moon to the Sun signs that come with it. A person born near a new moon has the Moon in the same sign as the Sun. A person born near a full moon has the Moon in the sign opposite the Sun.
For this pair, both cases involve Taurus and Scorpio. A Taurus Moon with a Scorpio Sun is a full moon birth. A Scorpio Moon with a Taurus Sun is a full moon birth too.

Look at the Scorpio row. A Scorpio Moon is more likely to have a Taurus Sun than a Scorpio Sun. The Taurus Sun wins on both sides of the couple.
The reason is the Earth’s orbit. The Earth is farthest from the Sun in early July, so the Sun crosses the spring and summer signs more slowly. Over the years 1600 to 2400, the Sun spent 30.96 days in Taurus on average, but only 29.90 days in Scorpio. More days in Taurus means more moments with a Taurus Sun, whatever the Moon is doing.
The gap is about a third of a point. It will not change your reading. But it shows that the sky is not as even as most charts assume. A clean opposition
A link by sign is not always a link by degree. A Moon at 1 degree Taurus and a Moon at 29 degrees Scorpio are six signs apart, but only 152 degrees apart in the sky.
Astrologers allow a margin around the exact angle, called an orb. We asked how many couples fall inside it. The Moon moves at a near even pace through each sign, so geometry gives the answer. We checked it on the true spread of Moon positions over eight centuries.

These shares are the same for every Moon pair, so they reflect geometry. But one point is special to the opposition. When the angle drifts away from 180 degrees, it moves toward 150 degrees. That is a quincunx, a minor link. So a Taurus and Scorpio Moon pair never hides a trine, a square or a sextile. The couples outside the orb have a loose opposition, and nothing else.
First, be sure of both Moons
All of this depends on two correct Moon signs. The Moon moves fast. It stays in a sign for 54.6 hours on average, and changes sign on 43.92 percent of all days.
A tool that knows only your birth date uses noon. That guess gives the wrong Moon sign in 10.98 percent of charts. For a couple, it gets the pair wrong in about 1 case in 5. A Taurus Moon born near a sign change might be an Aries or a Gemini Moon. A Scorpio Moon might be a Libra or a Sagittarius Moon. A birth time settles the question.

How we measured
We used two separate routes over the years 1600 to 2400, with every moment given equal weight. Route one used the astronomy-engine library. It found each sign change of the Moon and the Sun to within a tenth of a second. It then added up the exact time in each case. Route two used the Swiss Ephemeris and checked the sky once an hour, on a grid shifted by half an hour. The two routes agree to within 0.05 points.
The Sun’s days per sign are averages over all its passages in the same span. The noon test uses calendar days in Greenwich time, with a chart at 12:00. For the ranks, we used the Tetrabiblos, Book 1, chapters 13 to 19, in the Robbins translation, and the tables in Lilly’s Christian Astrology.
