Aries Venus and Gemini Venus compatibility has a quiet third party: Taurus. It sits between the two signs on the zodiac wheel. It is the sign Venus calls home. And, as the counts below show, it is the single most likely Sun sign for both partners.
The two Venus signs sit two steps apart, a friendly angle called a sextile. Two steps is also the full reach of Venus on one side of the Sun. So one Taurus Sun can hold a Venus in Aries or a Venus in Gemini, one on each side. This page follows that thread.

Why Taurus sits in the middle
Venus orbits inside the Earth’s path. From here, it never strays far from the Sun. Over the 800 years we checked, the widest gap was 47.3 degrees. A sign is 30 degrees wide. So Venus can sit in the Sun’s sign, one sign away, or two signs away, and no further.
Ptolemy knew this. In the Tetrabiblos, Book I, chapter 17, he notes that Venus is never more than two signs from the Sun. He used that to place her homes, Taurus and Libra, two signs from the homes of the Sun and Moon.
Now look at this pair. Aries is one sign behind Taurus. Gemini is one sign ahead. A Taurus Sun can therefore hold Venus in either one. With Venus in Aries, Venus trails the Sun and rises before dawn, as a morning star. With Venus in Gemini, Venus leads the Sun and sets after dusk, as an evening star.
So two Taurus Suns can carry both halves of this match. One has a morning Venus, and the other an evening Venus. The ancients knew these as two faces of one planet, and the Greeks even gave them two names: Phosphorus at dawn and Hesperus at dusk.
The Sun signs behind each Venus
We asked a simple question. Among people with Venus in a given sign, which Sun signs do they have? Here is the share for each one.

Taurus is the top Sun sign for a Venus in Aries. It is a close second for a Venus in Gemini, just behind Cancer. No other Sun sign scores high in both columns.
Two Taurus Suns
Put the two columns together. In 8.7 percent of these couples, both partners are Taurus Suns. The single most likely mix is a Taurus Sun with the Aries Venus and a Cancer Sun with the Gemini Venus, at 9.0 percent. Two Taurus Suns come a very close second.
The partners share a Sun sign in 12.8 percent of these couples, about 1 in 8. Two Taurus Suns make up about two thirds of that.

So if you meet an Aries and Gemini Venus couple, a pair of Taurus birthdays is a good first guess. It is still only a guess. Nine couples in ten have some other mix.
How far apart the Suns sit
The Venus signs are two apart, but the Sun signs spread widely. They are one sign apart in 24.2 percent of these couples and two apart in 25.2 percent. They are three apart in 19.2 percent. In 0.8 percent, the Suns even stand opposite, an Aquarius Sun with the Aries Venus and a Leo Sun with the Gemini Venus.

One more count. In about 42 percent of these couples, at least one partner has Venus in their own Sun sign. In 5.7 percent, both do.
A harmony by the old rules
An aspect is an angle between two points on the zodiac wheel. In Book I, chapter 13, Ptolemy lists four. He calls the trine and the sextile harmonious. His reason is simple. Both are made of signs of the same kind.
The old books split the signs into two kinds, masculine and feminine, in turn around the wheel. Aries is masculine, and so is Gemini. Fire and air are the two masculine elements. So the pair shares a kind, which is what Ptolemy counted as a harmony.
Then the signs differ in mode. Aries is cardinal, which means it starts a season. Gemini is mutable, which means it ends one. Only two of the 78 Venus pairs join fire and air as a season starter and a season ender. The other is Libra with Sagittarius.
Two guests, two hosts
Each sign has a ruling planet, like a landlord. Mars rules Aries, and Mercury rules Gemini. Venus rules neither, so here it is a guest in both houses.

Exile means the sign across from a planet’s home. Aries faces Libra, a home of Venus, so Venus is in exile in Aries. William Lilly, writing in 1647, read an exiled planet as one that works hard for a small result. It is a rule about how easily a planet acts, not about a person’s worth. In Gemini, Venus takes its tone from Mercury, the planet of talk and wit. The old books give it no major rank there, good or bad. Our page on Venus in Gemini shows why its poor name is not earned.
The hosts get along too. Mars has no rank in Gemini, and Mercury has none in Aries. Neither host is harmed in the other’s sign. That is a quieter setup than the pair next door, Aries Venus and Taurus Venus, where each host is weak in the other’s house.
How close are the two Venus points?
A sextile by sign is not always a sextile by degree. Two Venus points in Aries and Gemini can sit anywhere from about 30 to about 90 degrees apart. The exact sextile is 60.
Astrologers allow an orb, which is the miss they accept around the exact angle. Here is the share of couples within each orb.

So fewer than half of these couples have a true sextile at a common orb of 8 degrees.
There is a catch at the far edge. Take Venus at 2 degrees Aries and Venus at 27 degrees Gemini. They sit 85 degrees apart, close to a square, the angle of friction. That happens within 8 degrees for 3.5 percent of couples. That is half the rate for a square pair, since only one edge of the range runs into a major aspect.
How the tradition reads this pair
In the old books, Venus shows what we find lovely and how we show care. The sign colors that style.
Where the pair flows
Fire and air feed each other in the classic image. Air gives fire room to burn. The Aries Venus brings the first move, the dare and the plain word. The Gemini Venus brings the banter, the quick reply and the fresh idea.
Both signs like speed. Neither one wants a slow, silent romance. In the old reading, that shared tempo is what makes the sextile easy.
Where it snags
The snag is about focus. The Aries Venus wants one clear target and a clear answer. The Gemini Venus likes to keep options open and talk things through. What feels like play to one partner can feel like a dodge to the other.
Ptolemy’s word for the sextile was harmony, not ease without effort. Modern writers such as Liz Greene and Stephen Arroyo read a Venus through its element. Fire loves by doing. Air loves by talking. A couple that can name the split has less to argue about.
What the evidence says
No study has tested Venus pairs. The best test of love signs used the Sun. In 2007 the sociologist David Voas studied the 2001 census of England and Wales, with 10.3 million married couples. He found no link between Sun signs and who marries whom. A small excess of same-sign couples came from errors on the forms.
So treat the Aries and Gemini Venus match as a way to talk about pace and talk. It is not a verdict on a couple.
How we measured it
All figures cover 1 January 1600 to 1 January 2400, in the tropical zodiac, seen from the center of the Earth. Every moment of birth counts the same.
Route one used the Astronomy Engine library. It found every change of sign for Venus and the Sun to within a tenth of a second, then summed the time in each state exactly. Route two used the Swiss Ephemeris, a separate set of planet math, on an hourly grid shifted by 30 minutes. That gave just over 7 million moments. The two routes agree within 0.01 of a point on every Venus figure here.
The couple odds pair two people born at unrelated moments. The degree shares use the true spread of Venus inside each sign, in steps of a tenth of a degree. Real couples are born close in time, so treat these as odds for strangers.
