Sagittarius Venus and Pisces Venus compatibility is a meeting of two signs with one ruler. Venus is the planet of love and pleasure in astrology. Your Venus sign shows what you find lovely and how you reach for it. Here, one partner has Venus in fire and the other has Venus in water. Both signs belong to Jupiter.
We checked eight centuries of sky, from 1600 to 2400, to see who these two people are. The answer has a twist. The Sun signs you are most likely to find in this couple are neither Sagittarius nor Pisces. They are Capricorn and Aquarius, the two signs that sit between them.
This page walks through that finding, what Jupiter does as host, how tight the square is in degrees, and how rare the pair is. Read it as a lens, not a forecast. Astrology is not a science, and no study has shown that a Venus sign predicts how a couple will do.

The likeliest Suns sit between the two Venus signs
Venus never strays far from the Sun. Seen from Earth, the widest gap between them is about 47 degrees. A sign is 30 degrees wide. So Venus can sit in the Sun’s sign, one sign away, or two signs away. That leaves five possible Sun signs for each Venus sign.

Look at the top row. Capricorn and Aquarius lie between Sagittarius and Pisces on the wheel. The Sagittarius Venus reaches forward to a Capricorn Sun. The Pisces Venus reaches back to an Aquarius Sun. Both sides lean toward the middle, and that pair wins.
The lead is small, so do not treat it as a rule. At 9.04 percent, the top pair edges out Scorpio with Aries at 8.63 percent. The field is wide. We counted 24 different Sun pairs in this couple.
Why does this matter? Many readers land here because one partner is a Sagittarius Sun and the other a Pisces Sun. That is a different couple. Can both partners share a Sun sign? Yes, but only in two ways. Both can be Capricorn, or both can be Aquarius. Those are the only Sun signs on both lists. Together they cover 5.34 percent of these couples, about 1 in 19.
Morning star, evening star
The top Sun pair hides a neat detail about the sky. Venus is seen near dawn or near dusk, never at midnight. Which one depends on its side of the Sun.
When Venus sits in the sign before the Sun’s sign, it rises ahead of the Sun. It is a morning star. That is the Sagittarius Venus with a Capricorn Sun. When Venus sits in the sign after the Sun’s sign, it sets after the Sun. It is an evening star. That is the Pisces Venus with an Aquarius Sun.
So the most likely couple here joins a dawn Venus and a dusk Venus. Old writers gave these two faces of Venus two names. The Greeks called the morning star Phosphorus and the evening star Hesperus. It took them a while to see that both were one planet.
Astrologers still read the side of the Sun. In the table of strengths William Lilly printed in 1647, Venus gains a small bonus when it sets after the Sun. So in the top Sun pair, the Pisces Venus gets that bonus and the Sagittarius Venus does not. It is a small clue, and it holds only for the couples who have these Suns.
One host, two ranks
Ptolemy wrote the Tetrabiblos in Alexandria around 150 AD. In Book I, chapter 17, he gives each planet its signs, called its houses. Jupiter got Sagittarius and Pisces. Venus got Taurus and Libra.
So in both charts, Venus lives in a house of Jupiter. Jupiter is its host, and a planet takes some of its tone from its host. In the old books, Jupiter is the greater benefic, the planet that does the most good. Venus is the lesser benefic. So two kind planets meet twice here.
The rank of Venus is not the same in the two signs, though.
- In Pisces, Venus is exalted. Ptolemy, in chapter 19, says Venus is moist by nature and so is lifted up in the Fishes, where the moist spring begins. William Lilly, in Christian Astrology in 1647, puts the peak at 27 degrees Pisces.
- In Sagittarius, Venus holds no major rank. Lilly calls such a planet peregrine, which means a wanderer or guest. It does hold a minor rank in a small slice of the sign. Lilly gives Venus the terms, a small band of degrees, from 8 to 14 degrees Sagittarius.

How rare is a shared ruler at a square? Only two pairs of different signs share a ruler and sit at a square. This is one. The other is Gemini and Virgo, both ruled by Mercury.
A square between two double signs
Sagittarius and Pisces sit three signs apart. That makes a square, a 90 degree angle. In Book I, chapter 13, Ptolemy calls the trine and the sextile harmonious. He calls the square and the opposition out of tune.
Signs alternate between masculine and feminine. Ptolemy notes that trines and sextiles join signs of the same kind. In this square the kinds differ. Sagittarius is a masculine fire sign. Pisces is a feminine water sign.
Both signs share a mode, though. A mode is the part of a season a sign falls in. Sagittarius and Pisces both end a season, late autumn and late winter. Ptolemy calls these signs bicorporeal, which means double bodied. The Archer is half man and half horse. The Fishes are two fish.
So the square has a common thread. Both signs are the bend at the end of a season, the moment things start to change. Astrologers link these signs to the wish to adapt. Here, two people adapt in two styles. Fire changes course by leaping ahead. Water changes course by flowing around.
How close is the square in degrees?
A square by sign is not always a square in degrees. The two Venuses can sit anywhere from 60 to 120 degrees apart. Astrologers allow a margin around the exact angle, called an orb. With an 8 degree orb, anything from 82 to 98 degrees counts.
We measured the real gaps, using the true spread of Venus inside each sign.

There is a second twist near the edges of the signs. Say one Venus sits at 1 degree Sagittarius and the other at 29 degrees Pisces. The gap is 118 degrees. That is close to a trine, the easy 120 degree angle. Flip it, with 29 Sagittarius and 1 Pisces, and the gap is 62 degrees. That is close to a sextile, the 60 degree angle.
At an 8 degree orb, 7 percent of these couples have one of these hidden aspects. About half are trines and half are sextiles, at 3.4 and 3.5 percent. So for about 1 couple in 14, the tense square by sign reads as an easy angle by degree. Check the exact degrees before you judge the link.
How common is the pair?
Venus spends 8.23 percent of its time in Sagittarius and 8.32 percent in Pisces. Pick two people born at unrelated moments. The odds that one has Venus in Sagittarius and the other in Pisces are 1.37 percent. That is about 1 couple in 73.
That puts the pair at rank 46 of the 78 Venus pairs. It sits in the middle of the list. The spread is narrow, though. Every Venus sign falls between 8.04 and 8.62 percent over 800 years. So no mixed Venus pair is truly rare.

Reading the pair the traditional way
In a chart, Venus shows what you value and how you draw love in. Stephen Arroyo reads it as your sense of worth. Modern astrologers read a square as friction that pushes for action. Here is how the old grid reads this meeting. None of it has been tested, and the Sun, Moon and Mars of each partner can change every line.
Where the two Venuses meet
- A shared host. Jupiter lends both a taste for meaning, faith and a big picture.
- Room to change. Both signs bend with events instead of digging in.
- Kindness. Two benefics, twice over, give the pair a warm base.
- A love of the far off. Sagittarius seeks new roads and Pisces seeks a dream. Both look past the here and now.
Where they rub
- Words against moods. Fire says it out loud. Water feels it first and speaks later.
- Freedom against closeness. The Archer wants space. The Fishes want to merge.
- Two moving targets. With both signs so fond of change, no one keeps the home base.
- Uneven rank. The exalted Pisces Venus can idealize love. The guest in Sagittarius can find that hard to live up to.

What the evidence says
No study has tested Venus signs in couples at scale. The largest test of love signs used Sun signs. In 2007 the sociologist David Voas looked at the 2001 census of England and Wales. He studied about 10.3 million married couples. He found no link between Sun signs and who marries whom.
Voas did not test Venus. So treat this page as words for a talk about freedom and closeness. It is not a verdict on the couple.
How we measured it
We used two separate routes over the years 1600 to 2400. Every moment counts the same. The zodiac is tropical, seen from the center of the Earth.
Route one used the Astronomy Engine library. It found each time Venus and the Sun changed sign, to within a tenth of a second. It then summed the time in each case, with no random draws. The spread of Venus inside each sign came from hourly steps, in bins of a tenth of a degree.
Route two used the Swiss Ephemeris. It placed Venus and the Sun once an hour, on a grid shifted by 30 minutes from the first. That gave 7,012,656 moments. The two routes agree to within 0.01 of a point on every Venus figure here.
The couple figures assume two people born at unrelated moments. Real couples are born close in time, so treat the odds as a guide to the sky. The Sun pair shares multiply the two Sun tables and count a mixed pair both ways. The split between hidden trines and sextiles uses the same spread of degrees on both routes. The Ptolemy points come from the Loeb edition by Frank Robbins, Book I, chapters 13, 17 and 19.
