Leo Venus and Pisces Venus compatibility joins two signs that the old books keep apart. Leo is the house of the Sun. Pisces is where Venus is exalted, her seat of honor. Yet the two signs sit five signs apart, an angle called a quincunx. Ptolemy did not count it as an aspect at all.
We ran Venus and the Sun from 1600 to 2400 to see what lies under that label. Three facts stand out. The two partners never share a Sun sign. Nobody in this couple is born with the Sun in Scorpio or Sagittarius. And by the oldest rules, the two signs have no tie of any kind. This page lays out the numbers, the old rules and what they can and cannot tell you.
A word first. Astrology is not a science. No study has shown that Venus signs predict how a couple will do. Read this as a lens for talking about love, not as a forecast.
A Venus in the Sun’s house, a Venus in her seat of honor
Your Venus sign is the sign Venus was in when you were born. In astrology it shows what you find lovely and how you like to be loved. The tradition gives each planet a rank in each sign. Here the two partners hold very different ranks.
| Partner | Rank of Venus | Ruler of the sign. |
|---|---|---|
| Leo Venus | No major rank, called peregrine. | The Sun. |
| Pisces Venus | Exaltation, the honored guest. | Jupiter. |
Peregrine means “foreign” or “wandering.” A peregrine planet has no major rank in the sign: it is neither at home, nor honored, nor weakened. Venus does hold a small share of Leo, called terms, from 6 to 11 degrees in the Egyptian table. But she has no major rank there. So a Leo Venus acts on her own terms, in the light of the Sun who owns the house.
That shows in style. A Leo Venus loves out loud. She wants warmth, loyalty and a bit of stage. She likes to give, and she likes to be seen giving. Our page on Venus in Leo shows how close the Sun always stands to this Venus.
A Pisces Venus loves in a soft, open, forgiving way. The line between self and other runs low. She gives without keeping score. Later writers put the peak of her honor at 27 degrees of Pisces. Our page on Venus in Pisces counts how many charts reach that band.
So one partner loves like a host with a lit stage, and the other like a guest who fills the room with care. Neither rank is a verdict on a person. They describe a style.
How common this pair is
Venus does not spend the same time in each sign. It speeds up, slows down and sometimes seems to move backward, which astrologers call retrograde. Over 800 years, each sign gets close to one twelfth of the time.
| Venus sign | Share of time, 1600 to 2400 | Rank among twelve. |
|---|---|---|
| Venus in Leo | 8.46 percent | Fourth of twelve. |
| Venus in Pisces | 8.32 percent | Seventh of twelve. |
| Even split | 8.33 percent | One sign in twelve. |
Pick two people at random. The chance that one has Venus in Leo and the other has Venus in Pisces is 1.41 percent. That is about one couple in 71. It ranks 23rd of the 78 Venus pairs, in the more common third. Leo is one of the more frequent Venus signs, and that lifts the pair.
Two birth windows that never meet
Venus never strays more than about 47 degrees from the Sun, as seen from Earth. We measured the widest gap at 47.28 degrees. So each Venus sign can sit with only five Sun signs. The tables show which Sun signs hold each Venus, as a share of all people with that Venus.
| Sun sign | Share of Leo Venus people | Note. |
|---|---|---|
| Gemini | 8.37 percent | Venus far ahead of the Sun. |
| Cancer | 29.84 percent | The largest group. |
| Leo | 23.88 percent | Sun and Venus in one sign. |
| Virgo | 29.16 percent | A close second. |
| Libra | 8.76 percent | Venus far behind the Sun. |
| Sun sign | Share of Pisces Venus people | Note. |
|---|---|---|
| Capricorn | 9.42 percent | Venus far ahead of the Sun. |
| Aquarius | 28.57 percent | A close second. |
| Pisces | 23.28 percent | Sun and Venus in one sign. |
| Aries | 29.56 percent | The largest group. |
| Taurus | 9.18 percent | Venus far behind the Sun. |
The Leo Venus list runs from Gemini to Libra. The Pisces Venus list runs from Capricorn to Taurus. No sign sits on both lists. So these two partners never share a Sun sign.
Put it in dates. Leo Venus people are born from late May to late October. Pisces Venus people are born from late December to late May. The two windows sit end to end, and together they cover ten months of the year. The gap is the Scorpio and Sagittarius weeks, from late October to late December. Nobody in this couple has a birthday there.
The likeliest Suns form a square
Which pair of Sun signs turns up most here? It is a Cancer Sun with the Leo Venus and an Aries Sun with the Pisces Venus. That covers 8.82 percent of these couples.
Cancer and Aries are three signs apart. That is a square, an angle Ptolemy called tense. The next pair, a Virgo Sun with an Aries Sun, covers 8.62 percent. It is a quincunx, the same angle as the Venuses. The third, a Cancer Sun with an Aquarius Sun, is a quincunx too. With less than one couple in eleven in the top group, all of this is a lean, not a rule.
How many partners have Venus in their own Sun sign? In 41.6 percent of these couples, at least one does. In 5.56 percent, both do. That small group is a Leo Sun with a Pisces Sun, and it repeats the quincunx in the Sun layer.
What Ptolemy says: no tie at all
Claudius Ptolemy wrote the Tetrabiblos in Alexandria around 150 AD. In Book I he names four aspects: the opposition, the trine, the square and the sextile. Signs one or five apart are not on his list. Leo and Pisces are five apart.
He then names two special ties that work even without an aspect. Some signs “command” and “obey,” and some “behold” each other. Each tie has two readings. Counted by whole signs, as Frank Robbins explains in the notes to his Loeb translation, Leo pairs with Sagittarius and with Gemini. Pisces pairs with Taurus and with Scorpio. Leo and Pisces are not on either list.
Counted by degrees, the ties link mirror points around the equinox and solstice lines. William Lilly calls them antiscia and contra-antiscia. We checked every couple. Not one Leo Venus mirrors a Pisces Venus by degree. So both readings agree.
Ptolemy calls such signs disjunct, or alien. Read by whole signs, all 24 pairs one or five signs apart have no classical tie of any kind. Read by exact degree, 16 have none, and this pair is one of them. It is also the only pair on the whole list that is a fire and water quincunx between a fixed sign and a mutable one.
How exact is the quincunx?
By sign, Leo and Pisces are always five signs apart. By degree, the gap between two Venuses runs from 120 to 180. The exact quincunx is 150. An orb is the slack an astrologer allows around that exact angle. We used the real spread of Venus inside each sign.
| Orb | Couples with a true quincunx | Reading. |
|---|---|---|
| 3 degrees | 18.99 percent | A tight link, about one in five. |
| 6 degrees | 35.97 percent | About one in three. |
| 8 degrees | 46.18 percent | A common working orb. |
| 10 degrees | 55.50 percent | A wide orb. |
There is a twist at the edges. When one Venus sits early in Leo and the other late in Pisces, the gap shrinks toward 120 degrees, a trine. When one sits late in Leo and the other early in Pisces, it grows toward 180, an opposition. At an 8 degree orb, 7.16 percent of these couples have one of those two major aspects across the sign line. For them, Ptolemy’s rules do find a link, just not the one the sign names suggest.
How the pair plays out
Read as symbols, both Venuses are generous. Both love to give. The Leo Venus gives with flair and wants the gift to be seen. The Pisces Venus gives quietly and hopes the gift is felt. That is the whole story of this pair in one line.
A quincunx is the angle of an odd fit. The two signs share no element, no mode and no polarity. Fire meets water. A fixed sign, which holds its course, meets a mutable one, which adapts. So each partner has to learn the other’s language from scratch.
- The Leo Venus brings warmth, loyalty and the courage to show love in public.
- The Pisces Venus brings tenderness, patience and a gift for reading moods.
- Friction comes when a need for praise meets a need for quiet.
- Both do well when they say what a gesture meant, instead of hoping the other guessed.
A practical habit helps. Let the Leo partner plan the big moments: the party, the trip, the grand gesture. Let the Pisces partner guard the small ones: the note, the song, the quiet night in. Each then gets to love in their own style, and each learns to see the other’s gifts.
The same signs through other planets
The Sun is a different layer. Our page on Leo and Pisces compatibility reads these two as Sun signs, with the odds for US couples. The Moon shows emotional needs, which our page on Moon sign compatibility for Leo and Pisces covers.
Each Venus has other partners. With an Aries Venus, a Leo Venus forms a fire trine, in Venus in Aries and Venus in Leo compatibility. With a Scorpio Venus, a Pisces Venus forms the rarest water trine, in Scorpio Venus and Pisces Venus compatibility. For all twelve signs, see our Venus sign compatibility guide.
What the evidence says
The largest test of sign matches used the 2001 census of England and Wales. The sociologist David Voas looked at 10.3 million married couples. He found no effect of Sun signs on who marries whom. A small excess of same-sign couples came from errors in the data. His paper, “Ten million marriages,” came out in 2007. It tested Sun signs. No test of that size exists for Venus signs.
So “no tie” in Ptolemy is not a warning, and exaltation is not a promise. This page shows the sky behind the label, and nothing more.
How we measured
We used two methods that share no code. The first used the Astronomy Engine library. It found each time Venus and the Sun entered a sign from 1600 to 2400, to a tenth of a second, and added up the time. The second used the Swiss Ephemeris. It checked the sign of Venus every hour, on a grid set half an hour off the first. That is more than seven million points. Neither drew random numbers. On the Venus figures, they agree within 0.01 points.
The degree shares use the real spread of Venus inside each sign, in steps of a tenth of a degree. They assume two people born at unrelated moments. All values use the tropical zodiac, seen from Earth. The birth windows use the usual Sun sign dates, which shift by a day from year to year. The Ptolemy readings follow the Loeb edition by Frank Robbins, Book I.
Frequently asked questions
Are Venus in Leo and Venus in Pisces compatible?
They form a quincunx, an angle Ptolemy did not count, and the signs share no classical tie. At an 8 degree orb, 46.18 percent of these couples have a true quincunx. No study shows that Venus signs predict how a couple does.
How common is a Leo Venus and Pisces Venus couple?
About one couple in 71, or 1.41 percent, over 1600 to 2400. It ranks 23rd of the 78 Venus pairs.
Can a Leo Venus and a Pisces Venus share a Sun sign?
No. A Leo Venus goes with Suns from Gemini to Libra. A Pisces Venus goes with Suns from Capricorn to Taurus. The lists never meet, and neither partner has a Scorpio or Sagittarius Sun.
Which Sun signs are most likely in this couple?
A Cancer Sun with the Leo Venus and an Aries Sun with the Pisces Venus, in 8.82 percent of couples. Those two Suns form a square.
Is Venus strong in Leo?
Venus has no major rank in Leo. She is not at home, exalted, in exile or in fall there. The tradition calls this peregrine. In Pisces she is exalted, her seat of honor.
