Scorpio Venus and Pisces Venus compatibility starts with a paradox. The two signs share water, and by sign they form a trine, the angle the old books call the easiest. Yet Venus has her lowest rank in one of them and her highest in the other. Scorpio is a sign of exile for Venus. Pisces is where she is exalted, her seat of honor.
We ran Venus and the Sun from 1600 to 2400 to see what sits under that label. Three facts stand out. This is the rarest of the twelve Venus trines. The two partners can share a Sun sign in only one way. And the likeliest Suns for this couple stand in opposition, not in a trine. This page gives the numbers, the old rules and the limits of both.
A word first. Astrology is not a science. No study has shown that Venus signs predict how a couple will do. Read this as a lens for talking about love, not as a forecast.
Exile meets exaltation
Your Venus sign is the sign Venus was in when you were born. In astrology it shows what you find lovely and how you like to be loved. The tradition also gives each planet a rank in each sign. Four ranks matter most.

So this couple holds the top guest seat and a seat of exile. Only a few Venus pairs put the same planet so high and so low at once.
Scorpio is ruled by Mars in the old scheme. So a Scorpio Venus speaks in the voice of Mars. She loves with focus, heat and a need for trust. She wants to know where she stands. Our page on Venus in Scorpio covers this placement in depth.
Pisces is ruled by Jupiter in the old scheme, and Venus is its honored guest. A Pisces Venus loves in a soft, open, forgiving way. The line between self and other runs low. Exile is not a verdict on a person. It says that Venus works through a host who does not share her taste. The Scorpio partner has to earn the ease that the Pisces partner starts with. That is the core symbol of this pair.
A share in the water signs
There is one more old rule, and it softens the picture. The ancients grouped the signs in threes by element. Each group had planets that ruled it by day and by night. These are called triplicity rulers.
In the older scheme of Dorotheus, which Vettius Valens also uses, Venus rules the water signs by day. So in a day birth, a Scorpio Venus still holds some rank in her own element. William Lilly, writing in London in 1647, gives the water signs to Mars by day and by night instead. The two schemes disagree, so we give both. Either way, both partners here stand in the same element.
The rarest of the twelve trines
Venus does not spend the same time in each sign. It speeds up, slows down and sometimes seems to move backward, which astrologers call retrograde. Over 800 years, each sign gets close to one twelfth of the time. Close, but not equal.

Pick two people at random. The chance that one has Venus in Scorpio and the other has Venus in Pisces is 1.35 percent. That is about one couple in 74. It ranks 56th of the 78 Venus pairs.
Twelve pairs of Venus signs form a trine. This one is the rarest of them. The most common trine, Taurus with Virgo, comes to one couple in 69. The gap is small. Still, Scorpio is the second rarest Venus sign of all, and that pulls this pair to the bottom of the list.
A short window tells another story. This autumn, Venus entered Scorpio on 10 September 2026. She turns retrograde there on 3 October, backs into Libra on 25 October and comes back on 4 December. She leaves for Sagittarius on 7 January 2027. That adds up to 79 days in Scorpio. Her next stay in Pisces runs from 26 March to 20 April 2027, just 25 days. All dates are in universal time. In New York they fall on the same days, except the exit from Pisces, late on 19 April. Over one year, Scorpio looks common. Over 800 years, it is one of the rarest. That is why we measure over the long span.
Only one Sun sign they can share
Venus never strays more than about 47 degrees from the Sun, as seen from Earth. We measured the widest gap at 47.28 degrees. So each Venus sign can sit with only five Sun signs. The tables show which Sun signs hold each Venus, as a share of all people with that Venus.

Look for a sign on both lists. There is just one: Capricorn. So the only way for this couple to share a Sun sign is for both to be Capricorns. That happens in 0.86 percent of these couples, about one in 117.
In dates, Scorpio Venus people are born from late August to mid January. Pisces Venus people are born from late December to late May. The two windows touch only in the Capricorn weeks, around the turn of the year.
A trine by Venus, an opposition by Sun
Which pair of Sun signs turns up most here? It is a Libra Sun with the Scorpio Venus and an Aries Sun with the Pisces Venus. That covers 8.78 percent of these couples. No other Venus pair has this top Sun pair.
Here is the twist. The Venuses form a trine. But Libra and Aries are opposite signs. So the most common version of this couple has an easy angle in the Venus layer and a tense one in the Sun layer. The next pair, an Aquarius Sun with a Libra Sun, is a trine in air. It covers 8.49 percent. With less than one couple in eleven in the top group, this is a lean, not a rule.
How many partners have Venus in their own Sun sign? In 41.29 percent of these couples, at least one does. In 5.47 percent, both do. That small group is a Scorpio Sun with a Pisces Sun, and it is the one case where the Sun signs mirror the Venus trine.
How close is the trine in real degrees?
By sign, Scorpio and Pisces are always four signs apart. By degree, the gap between two Venuses can run anywhere from 90 to 150 degrees. The true trine is 120. An orb is the slack an astrologer allows around that exact angle. We used the real spread of Venus inside each sign to see how many couples come close.

So at a common orb of 8 degrees, fewer than half of these couples have a true trine. In another 3.59 percent, the Venuses form a square instead, across the sign line. The rest have a trine by sign only. Your own degrees, not the sign names, decide which group you are in.
What Ptolemy says about Scorpio and Pisces
Claudius Ptolemy wrote the Tetrabiblos in Alexandria around 150 AD. In Book I he names four angles. He calls the trine and the sextile harmonious, and the square and the opposition not. The reason he gives for the trine is simple: the two signs share a kind. Here both are water, and both are feminine signs in his terms.
He also names signs that “behold” each other. On this point there are two readings. Counted by whole signs, as Frank Robbins explains in the notes to his Loeb translation, Scorpio and Pisces sit the same distance from Capricorn. So they behold each other, a second tie on top of the trine.
Counted by degrees, the rule links points of equal day length. William Lilly calls such points antiscia. By that reading, a Scorpio degree mirrors a degree of Aquarius, not of Pisces. We found only 0.51 percent of these couples with Venuses in that mirror at 3 degrees. So the whole sign reading gives this pair a bonus, and the degree reading almost never does. Both readings agree on the trine.
How the pair plays out
Read as symbols, the two Venuses share a need. Both want depth over display. Both sense mood before words. Both would rather have one true bond than many light ones.
The difference is in the edge. The Scorpio Venus guards. It tests before it trusts, and it wants a clear yes or no. The Pisces Venus opens. It gives before it is asked, and it forgives fast. One can feel the other is too closed. The other can feel the first is too loose with its heart.

What the evidence says
The largest test of sign matches used the 2001 census of England and Wales. The sociologist David Voas looked at 10.3 million married couples. He found no effect of Sun signs on who marries whom. A small excess of same-sign couples came from errors in the data. His paper, “Ten million marriages,” came out in 2007. It tested Sun signs. No test of that size exists for Venus signs.
So a trine is not a promise, and an exile is not a warning. This page shows the sky behind the label, and nothing more.
How we measured
We used two methods that share no code. The first used the Astronomy Engine library. It found each time Venus and the Sun entered a sign from 1600 to 2400, to a tenth of a second, and added up the time. The second used the Swiss Ephemeris. It checked the sign of Venus every hour, on a grid set half an hour off the first. That is more than seven million points. Neither drew random numbers. On the Venus figures, they agree within 0.01 points.
The degree shares use the real spread of Venus inside each sign, in steps of a tenth of a degree. They assume two people born at unrelated moments. The 2026 and 2027 dates come from both engines, which agree to the hour. All values use the tropical zodiac, seen from Earth. The Ptolemy readings follow the Loeb edition by Frank Robbins, Book I.
