Taurus Moon and Sagittarius Moon compatibility joins two signs that sit five apart on the wheel. Astrologers call that angle a quincunx, 150 degrees, and read it as two people out of step. The old books add that these signs have no bond at all.
We found a quieter contrast in the sky itself. A Taurus Moon is born near a new moon more than near a full moon. A Sagittarius Moon is the reverse. It has one of the highest shares of full moon births of all twelve Moon signs. So this couple joins a new moon sign with a full moon sign.

A fair warning
Astrology is not a science. No study has shown that Moon signs predict how a couple will do. In 2007, the sociologist David Voas tested Sun signs on 10.3 million married couples from the 2001 census of England and Wales. He found no link between signs and who marries whom.
Moon signs have never had that test, because a census holds no birth times. So read this page as old ideas plus real sky data. It is a set of prompts, not a score.
One Moon near the new moon, one near the full
Every person is born at some point in the Moon’s monthly cycle. Near a new moon, the Moon sits close to the Sun, so both share a sign. Near a full moon, the Moon faces the Sun from the opposite sign. If the Sun moved at an even pace, each Moon sign would get the two cases in equal shares. It does not.
We measured the shares over eight centuries, from 1600 to 2400.

The two Moons lean in opposite ways. A Taurus Moon is likelier to share its sign with the Sun. A Sagittarius Moon is likelier to face a Gemini Sun. Only the Capricorn Moon, at 8.48 percent, has a higher full moon share than Sagittarius.
Why the Sun makes the difference
The Earth’s orbit is not a perfect circle. The Earth is farthest from the Sun in early July, and closest in early January. So the Sun seems to crawl through the summer signs and hurry through the winter ones.
Over 1600 to 2400, the Sun spent 30.96 days in Taurus on average, and 29.90 in Scorpio. It spent 31.33 days in Gemini, but only 29.56 in Sagittarius. A sign where the Sun lingers collects more births with the Sun in it. That tilts which phase each Moon sign sees most.
What it means for the couple
Now take the two partners together. In 15.65 percent of Taurus and Sagittarius couples, at least one partner was born with the Moon in their own Sun sign. In 15.80 percent, at least one was born with the Moon opposite their Sun. The full moon side wins, pulled up by the Sagittarius partner.
The gaps are small, under half a point. They will not settle anything about your couple. But they are real features of the sky, not guesses.

The Taurus Moon stays
Taurus is an earth sign and a fixed sign. Earth is the element of the body and of things you can hold. Fixed signs keep what works. The Taurus Moon calms through food, rest, touch and a known routine.
Ptolemy, who wrote the Tetrabiblos around 150 AD, and William Lilly, in Christian Astrology of 1647, name Taurus the Moon’s exaltation. That is the sign where the Moon is honored, like a guest of high rank.
The Sagittarius Moon roams
Sagittarius is a fire sign and a mutable sign. Fire is the element of spirit and drive. Mutable signs adapt and move on. The Sagittarius Moon calms through space, humor, a new place or a big idea. A closed door makes it restless.
The Moon has no major rank in Sagittarius. It is neither at home, nor exalted, nor weak there.
Where they meet and where they miss
One Moon wants to stay home. The other wants to go out and see the world. A free weekend can look like rest to one and like a waste to the other.
They meet on generosity. Both Moons like to give, and both enjoy the good things of life. The Taurus Moon enjoys a fine meal. The Sagittarius Moon enjoys the trip to find it.
Among the 78 Moon pairs, this is the only quincunx that joins earth and fire across a fixed and a mutable sign.
Two good hosts, no line between them
Each sign has a ruling planet, like the owner of a house. Venus rules Taurus. Jupiter rules Sagittarius. In Book 1, chapter 5, Ptolemy calls Jupiter and Venus the beneficent planets, with the Moon. Later writers call Venus the lesser benefic and Jupiter the greater one.
So both Moons answer to a kind host. The Taurus Moon answers to Venus, planet of pleasure and ease. The Sagittarius Moon answers to Jupiter, planet of growth and faith. Astrologers read that as two people who want the other to be happy.
The signs themselves are another story. In Book 1, chapter 16, Ptolemy describes signs he calls disjunct. They share no aspect, since 150 degrees does not split the circle evenly. They also lack his two mirror links, the “commanding” and the “beholding” pairs. Taurus and Sagittarius meet every part of that test. Only 16 of the 78 sign pairs do.

What the real degrees add
A quincunx by sign is not always 150 degrees in the sky. Astrologers allow a margin around the exact angle, called an orb. The Moon moves at a near even pace through each sign, so geometry gives the share of couples inside it. We checked it on the true spread of Moon positions over eight centuries.

These shares are the same for every Moon pair. The next point is not.
Near the sign edges, a different link can appear. A Moon at 1 degree Taurus and a Moon at 29 degrees Sagittarius sit 122 degrees apart. That is a real trine, the link Ptolemy liked best. A Moon at 29 degrees Taurus and a Moon at 1 degree Sagittarius sit 182 degrees apart. That is a real opposition.
With an 8 degree orb, 7.11 percent of these couples have one of the two. Half are trines and half are oppositions. So about 1 couple in 28 has a true trine hidden in a “disjunct” pair.
Are both Moons right?
All of the above needs two correct Moon signs. The Moon stays in a sign for 54.6 hours on average, and changes sign on 43.92 percent of all days. On those days, a birth date gives two possible Moons.
Tools with no birth time use noon. That guess gives the wrong Moon sign in 10.98 percent of charts. For a couple, it gives the wrong pair in about 1 case in 5. Only 31 percent of couples have both Moons fixed by their dates alone. Our pivot page on Moon sign compatibility gives the full count.
A Taurus Moon near a sign change might be an Aries or Gemini Moon. A Sagittarius Moon might be a Scorpio or Capricorn Moon. The birth time settles it.
Ways to close the gap
A quincunx is read as a string of small fixes. Here are three places to start.
- Split the calendar. Plan some weekends at home and some away. Each Moon gets its kind of rest.
- Trade the roles of guide. Let the Sagittarius Moon pick the place and the Taurus Moon pick the table.
- Say what “free” means. For one, it means no plans. For the other, it means any plan at all. Agree on both.

Our method
We used two separate routes over the years 1600 to 2400, with every moment weighted the same. Route one used the astronomy-engine library. It found every sign change of the Moon and the Sun to within a tenth of a second, then summed the exact time in each case. Route two used the Swiss Ephemeris and read the sky once an hour, on a grid shifted by half an hour. The two routes agree to within 0.05 points.
The Sun’s days per sign are averages of all its passages. The noon test uses calendar days in Greenwich time, with a chart at 12:00. For the old rules, we read the Tetrabiblos, Book 1, chapters 5 and 13 to 19, in the Robbins translation, and Lilly’s Christian Astrology.
