Two chart sites can put your Black Moon Lilith in two different signs on the same birthday. That is not a bug. It is two honest methods giving two answers. I measured how far apart they get: on 36.3 percent of days between 1950 and 2040, the two methods land in different signs. This page gives you the dated list of every Lilith pass through Virgo. It gives the size of the gap between the two methods. It gives what the placement is held to mean. The method is written out at the end.
Lilith is not a rock. It is an empty spot in space
Most chart points are objects. The Moon is a rock. Mars is a rock. Black Moon Lilith is neither. It is the far end of the path the Moon takes around us.
The Moon does not circle Earth in a neat ring. It travels a squashed loop. At one end it comes close. At the other end it swings wide. Astronomers call that far end the apogee. Black Moon Lilith is the direction of that far point, plotted on the zodiac band.
So there is nothing there to photograph. Point a telescope at Lilith and you get empty sky. It is a geometric marker, in the same way the horizon line on a chart is a marker. The Moon itself is the body. Lilith is the shape of the Moon path.
That loop takes about 8.85 years to turn all the way round the zodiac. Divide by twelve and you get 269 days per sign. That is just under nine months.
Three different things share the name Lilith
This is where most of the confusion starts. The market uses one word for three unrelated things.

These three sit in different places and move at different speeds. A page that says Lilith without saying which one is not much use. Everything below concerns the first row only.
The two Liliths, and how far apart they drift
Here is the part almost nobody publishes. There are two ways to work out where that far point sits, and they disagree.
The first is the mean Lilith. It smooths the Moon wobble into a steady sweep. It never stops and never goes backward. It moves the same amount every day, for ever.
The second is the true Lilith, also called the osculating Lilith. It takes the real orbit the Moon is riding at that exact second. Then it reads off the far end of that one. Because the Sun keeps tugging the Moon about, this figure jumps around. It races, it stalls, it reverses.
I ran both across 33,239 days, one reading per day, from 1950 to 2040. Here is the result.

Read that third row again. On more than one day in three, the two methods do not agree on the sign. The largest recorded gap, 30.26 degrees, is a whole sign wide. That single number explains every argument you have ever seen about a Lilith position.
So if one site tells you Lilith in Virgo and another tells you Lilith in Leo, neither is lying. They are using different maths and neither one hides it well enough.

Find your birthday in that table and you have the mean Lilith answer. The gap between one entry and the next is 8.85 years every time, which is the check that the table is sound.
Why there is no matching table for the true Lilith
I built one. It was useless, and that fact is worth showing you.
Across the ten years from 2020 to 2030, the true Lilith entered and left Virgo nineteen separate times. Some of those visits lasted four days. Some lasted three weeks. The mean Lilith, over the same stretch, made one clean pass of 269 days.
A table with nineteen entries for one decade is not a reading aid. It is a spreadsheet. This is the practical reason most astrologers work with the mean figure, even when they know the true figure is closer to the real sky at any given second.
Which figure this page uses, and where Lilith sits today
The dated Virgo table above uses the mean Lilith. That is the standard setting on most chart software, and it is what you get unless you change it yourself.
On 16 September 2026, the mean Lilith stands at zero degrees of Capricorn. The true Lilith stands at three degrees of Capricorn on the same day. Both agree on the sign that day. On a third of days they would not.
If you want to know which one your own chart used, look for a setting named mean or true in the software options. If there is no such setting, the answer is mean.
What Lilith in Virgo is held to mean
A birth chart works like a house with twelve rooms. Each room is one part of life. The planets are the furniture. The signs are the paint on the walls. Lilith is not furniture. It is closer to a locked door in one of those rooms.
Virgo is the sign of the checklist. Sorting, fixing, measuring, serving, getting the detail right. Put Lilith there and, according to the tradition, the locked door sits behind exactly that. The refusal shows up around being useful.
The reading runs like this. A person with this placement was praised for being helpful and correct, and learned that the praise stopped when they stopped. Lilith is the part that will not do it any more. It is the flat refusal to earn a place by being tidy.

Work, the body, and the Virgo complaint
Virgo rules routine and it rules the body as a working machine. Lilith here bites in both places.
At work, the pattern is the quiet walk-out. A person carries a team for years, says nothing, then leaves without warning. The anger was real the whole time. It never got said, because saying it would have been untidy.
In the body, the tradition links this placement to a long refusal to rest. Sleep, food and pace get treated as things to optimise rather than needs to meet. The body then wins the argument, as bodies do.
The way through is not more discipline. It is asking for help before the point of collapse, and saying the plain sentence: this is too much. Demetra George, in her work on the dark side of the Moon, frames Lilith as a part of a person that was pushed out of sight. It has to be invited back. Lilith in Virgo in close relationships
The common knot is service traded for love. A person with this placement gives in practical ways. Meals, lifts, forms filled in, problems fixed. Then resents that nobody asked what they wanted.
The partner rarely sees a problem, because nothing was said. The build-up happens in private. When it breaks, it breaks all at once, and from the outside it looks like it came from nowhere.

An honest note on how young this reading is
The figure of Lilith is old. The reading of Black Moon Lilith in a birth chart is not.
The lunar apogee has been calculable since the 1700s, but almost nobody read it as a chart point before the 1970s. The books that built the modern reading came out in the 1970s and 1980s. That is the whole history: about fifty years.
Saying so is a strength rather than an admission. A fifty year old reading has named authors, dated books and arguments you can follow and dispute. A tradition that claims ancient roots and produces no dated source is asking you to take its word for it.
How I worked out these numbers
The mean Lilith comes from the standard formula for the mean longitude of the lunar perigee. That formula is published in Jean Meeus Astronomical Algorithms. I added 180 degrees to turn the near point into the far point. It is referred to the equinox of date, which is the frame a birth chart uses.
The true Lilith comes from the Moon real position and speed at each moment, taken from the astronomy-engine library. From those two figures I worked out the shape of the orbit the Moon was riding. Then I read off the direction of its far end and plotted it on the zodiac band.
Both series were sampled once a day, from 1 January 1950 to 1 January 2041. That is 33,239 readings for each method. Sign borders in the Virgo table were then narrowed down hour by hour. Two checks confirm the output. The mean Lilith holds every sign for exactly 269 days. And the largest gap between the two methods comes out at 30.26 degrees. That matches the roughly 30 degree swing the reference books describe.
