Venus in Aries and Venus in Aquarius compatibility has a twist most guides miss. Venus is the planet of love and pleasure in astrology. In this couple, both Venuses sit in signs owned by the two harsh planets of the old books. Aries belongs to Mars. Aquarius belongs to Saturn.
So the planet of charm is a guest twice over, in the two houses built for heat and cold. The signs still form a sextile, the friendly link of the zodiac. This page looks at both facts. It then checks the sky: how common the pair is, which Sun signs the two partners carry, and how many sextiles are exact.
Read it as a lens, not a forecast. Astrology is not a science, and no study has shown that a Venus sign predicts how a couple will do.

Venus as a guest of Mars and Saturn
Ptolemy wrote the Tetrabiblos in Alexandria around 150 AD. In Book I, chapter 5, he sorts the planets into two camps. Jupiter and Venus do good, so later writers call them the benefics. Saturn and Mars do harm, so they are the malefics. Saturn harms by too much cold. Mars harms by too much dryness and burning heat.
In chapter 17, Ptolemy gives each planet its signs. The Sun and Moon took Leo and Cancer. Saturn, the coldest planet, took the two signs across from them, Capricorn and Aquarius. Mars took the signs at a square to them, Aries and Scorpio. Venus took the signs at a sextile to them, Taurus and Libra.
So each sign has a host. A planet in another planet’s sign is a guest, and it works in the host’s manner. In this couple, both Venuses are guests of a malefic. One lives with Mars. The other lives with Saturn.

The two ranks differ. Exile, or detriment, is the sign across the wheel from a planet’s home. Venus rules Libra, so Aries is its exile. William Lilly, in Christian Astrology in 1647, scores exile as a weak place. In Aquarius, Venus has no rank at all. Lilly calls that peregrine, which means a wanderer.
A weak rank is not a weak lover. It means the planet has to borrow its tools. The Aries Venus borrows speed from Mars. The Aquarius Venus borrows reserve from Saturn. Heat and cold, and a friendly angle
Ptolemy’s two malefics are opposites. Mars is hot and dry. Saturn is cold and dry. Put them side by side and you get a clear image of this pair. One partner loves fast and warm. The other loves slow and cool.
Yet the signs sit two apart, and that gap is a sextile. The sextile is the angle Ptolemy used to place Venus itself. It is the mild, helpful link, weaker than a trine but still a bond. Fire and air feed each other in the old model. Air lets a fire breathe.
So the tradition gives this couple two stories at once. The hosts pull in two ways. The angle between the signs helps them meet. In plain words, the pair has a good channel and very different tempers on each end.
There is one more point. Both Aries and Aquarius are masculine signs in the old scheme, the active, outgoing half of the zodiac. Venus is a feminine, receptive planet. So both Venuses work in an outgoing key. Neither one waits to be chosen. Both make the first move, in their own style.
Which Sun signs does each partner carry?
Venus never strays far from the Sun. Seen from Earth, the widest gap between them is about 47 degrees. A sign is 30 degrees wide. So each Venus sign allows only five Sun signs. We counted how the time splits between them over the years 1600 to 2400.

Look at the top of each list. Most people with Venus in Aries are not Aries at all. The largest group is Taurus, then Pisces. Most people with Venus in Aquarius are Pisces or Capricorn by Sun sign.
That is why the most likely Sun pair for this couple is a Taurus Sun with a Pisces Sun. It turns up in 8.81 percent of Aries and Aquarius Venus couples. An Aries Sun with an Aquarius Sun, the pair that shares the signs by name, is rarer. It needs both people to have Venus in their own Sun sign. That happens in only 5.45 percent of these couples.
The lists overlap in three places: Pisces, Aries and Aquarius. So the two partners can share a Sun sign. We added up the three cases. Both Pisces comes to 8.41 percent. Both Aries comes to 2.20 percent. Both Aquarius comes to 2.09 percent. Together that is 12.7 percent, or about 1 couple in 8.
The far end is odd too. A Gemini Sun can carry Venus in Aries. A Sagittarius Sun can carry Venus in Aquarius. Gemini and Sagittarius are opposite signs. So a couple with opposite Suns can still form this Venus sextile. It happens in 0.86 percent of these couples, less than 1 in 100.

How common is this couple?
Venus spends 8.29 percent of its time in Aries. It spends 8.16 percent in Aquarius. Both sit a little below the flat share of one in twelve, which is 8.33 percent. Aries ranks eighth of the twelve Venus signs. Aquarius ranks tenth.
Take two people born at random moments. The chance that one has Venus in Aries and the other has Venus in Aquarius is twice the product of the two shares. The pair can form two ways, which is why we double it. The result is 1.35 percent, about 1 couple in 74.
That puts the pair at rank 54 of the 78 Venus pairs. The spread between pairs is small, though. The most common pair of two different signs comes to about 1 in 68. The least common comes to about 1 in 77. So this couple is not rare. It sits in the lower middle.
Is the sextile exact in degrees?
A sign match is not a degree match. Each Venus can sit anywhere inside its 30 degree sign. A sextile is exact at 60 degrees apart. Astrologers allow a margin around it, called an orb. With an 8 degree orb, anything from 52 to 68 degrees counts.
We measured how many Aries and Aquarius couples fall inside each orb. We used the real spread of Venus inside each sign, not an even spread.

So a little more than half of these couples do not have a sextile in degrees at all, at the usual 8 degree orb. For them, the link is by sign only.
A few couples land on a different angle. Say the Aquarius Venus sits at 1 degree and the Aries Venus at 29 degrees. The gap is 88 degrees, close to a square. At an 8 degree orb, 3.53 percent of couples form a square or other major angle in degrees instead of the sextile. Check both degrees before you lean on the sign alone.
Reading the pair the traditional way
In a chart, Venus shows what you find lovely and how you draw love in. Stephen Arroyo reads it as your sense of value. Liz Greene reads it as the image of love you carry. Robert Hand reads a sextile as a chance that works when you use it.
Here is how the old grid reads this meeting. None of it has been tested, and a full chart can change every line.
Where the two Venuses meet
- Directness. Neither one plays games for long. The Aries Venus says it. The Aquarius Venus writes it down.
- Room to move. Mars and Saturn both respect a partner with a life of their own.
- Ideas and action. Air brings the plan, and fire brings the start.
- Loyalty on their own terms. Saturn keeps a bond for years once it is set.
Where they rub
- Speed against distance. The Aries Venus wants an answer now. The Aquarius Venus wants time to think.
- Heat against cool. A burst of feeling can meet logic, which reads as a cold shoulder.
- The chase. Mars loves the pursuit. Saturn distrusts a rush.
- Two first movers. Both signs are outgoing, so both can wait for the other to soften first.
The sextile is the useful part. In the old reading, it is an open door, not a gift. The skill here is pace. One partner learns to slow down. The other learns to say warm things out loud.
What the evidence says
No study has tested Venus signs in couples at scale. The largest test of love signs used Sun signs. In 2007 the sociologist David Voas looked at the 2001 census of England and Wales. He studied about 10.3 million married couples. He found no link between Sun signs and who marries whom.
Voas did not test Venus. So treat this page as a set of words for a talk about pace and space. It is not a verdict on a couple.
How we measured it
We used two separate routes over the years 1600 to 2400. Every moment counts the same. The zodiac is tropical, seen from the center of the Earth.
Route one used the Astronomy Engine library. It found each time Venus and the Sun changed sign, to within a tenth of a second. It then summed the time in each case, with no random draws.
Route two used the Swiss Ephemeris. It placed Venus and the Sun once an hour, on a grid shifted by 30 minutes from the first. That gave 7,012,656 moments. The two routes agree to within 0.01 of a point on every Venus figure on this page.
The couple figures assume two people born at unrelated moments. Real couples are born close in time, so treat the odds as a guide to the sky. The Sun pair shares multiply the two columns of the Sun table. The Ptolemy points come from the Loeb edition by Frank Robbins, Book I, chapters 5 and 17.
