In the old tradition, each planet except the Sun and the Moon rules two signs. One is its day house and one is its night house. William Lilly lays this out in his Christian Astrology of 1647. For Jupiter, Sagittarius is the day house. Pisces is the night house.
The Moon is the ruler of the night. The Sun rules the day. So a Moon in Pisces is a night planet in a night house. Its host, Jupiter, is the planet of growth, faith, and good will. Astrologers call Jupiter the greater benefic, the planet most likely to help.

A guest, not an owner

How close are two Moons in the same sign?
A conjunction by sign is not always a conjunction by degree. A Moon at 1 degree of Pisces and a Moon at 29 degrees of Pisces share the sign. Yet they are 28 degrees apart. Astrologers allow some slack around an exact angle. That slack is called an orb.

These values hold for every Moon pair, because the Moon spends close to the same time in each degree. With an 8 degree orb, fewer than half of Pisces Moon couples have an exact conjunction. The rest share the sign but not the degree.
What Ptolemy’s lists say
Ptolemy wrote the Tetrabiblos in the second century. In Book 1, he names signs that “behold” each other and signs that “command and obey”. Two Moons in one sign need none of this. They are simply together. The lists only show which other signs Pisces has ties with.
There are two ways to read those chapters. Read by whole sign, as the translator F. E. Robbins lists them in the Loeb edition, Pisces beholds Scorpio (note 83). Taurus commands Pisces (note 80). Read by degree, as mirror points in the style of Lilly, Pisces mirrors Libra and Aries.
None of these links involve a second Pisces. So the classical tie in this couple is the shared sign and the shared host.
New and full moon births

A Pisces Moon is a new moon birth when the Sun is in Pisces. It is a full moon birth when the Sun is in Virgo. Over 800 years, the first case holds 8.07 percent of Pisces Moons. The second holds 8.32 percent. The Sun spends about 29.96 days in Pisces and 30.90 days in Virgo, so it has more time to face a Pisces Moon than to meet it.
For this couple, 15.95 percent include at least one full moon birth. 15.49 percent include at least one new moon birth. The lean is small. It is real, and it comes from the calendar.
How common is a Pisces Moon and Pisces Moon couple?
The Moon spends almost the same time in each sign. From 1600 to 2400, each sign holds between 8.331 and 8.336 percent of the time. So any same-sign pair comes up about 1 time in 144. Any pair of two different Moon signs comes up about 1 time in 72. We do not rank the Moon pairs by how common they are. The gaps between them are smaller than the error of our method.
Check your Moons before you read on
The Moon moves fast. It stays in one sign for 54.6 hours on average, and between 46.9 and 61.1 hours. So on 43.92 percent of days, it changes sign at some hour. A person born on such a day has two possible Moon signs.
Many free tools guess a birth time of noon. That guess gives the wrong Moon sign to about one person in nine, or 10.98 percent. Two noon charts give the wrong Moon pair to 20.75 percent of couples, about one couple in five. A Pisces Moon born early in the day could be an Aquarius Moon. One born late could be an Aries Moon.
How we measured
We used two routes that share no code and no star tables. Route one used the Astronomy Engine library. It found every sign change of the Moon and the Sun from 1600 to 2400, each to a tenth of a second. It then summed the time, interval by interval. The noon test used a chart set at 12:00 UTC on each day.
Route two used the Swiss Ephemeris. It read the Moon’s sign every hour over the same span, on a grid set half an hour apart from route one. That makes over seven million points. Neither route drew random numbers. On every Moon figure here, the two routes agree within 0.04 points. The Sun’s days per sign are averages over 1900 to 2100. All values use the tropical zodiac, seen from Earth.
What the research says
The largest test of sign matches used the 2001 census of England and Wales. The sociologist David Voas checked 10.3 million married couples. He found no effect of Sun signs on who married whom. A small excess of same-sign couples came from errors in data entry. His paper, “Ten million marriages”, came out in 2007. It covered Sun signs. No test of that size exists for Moon signs.
So the night house is not a promise, and the blurred edges are not a warning. They are symbols. Two Pisces Moons both value care and closeness. The symbols point to where that shared gift helps, and to where one partner needs to hold a firm line.
