Look up tonight. The north node is in Aquarius right now, and it has been since 27 July 2026. It leaves on 26 March 2028. That is not a forecast. It is a position, and it can be timed to the hour.
Most pages about this placement give you a personality sketch and no dates at all. This one gives you the dates first. Then the two readings that disagree about them, and a count we ran on 400,000 charts.
The node is in Aquarius as you read this
The current pass began at 00:09 UTC on 27 July 2026. It runs to 15:36 UTC on 26 March 2028. That is 609 days.
Two things follow from that, and both are checkable.
The first is eclipses. An eclipse happens when a New Moon or a Full Moon lands near a node. So the eclipses of this period fall along the Aquarius and Leo line. The total solar eclipse of 12 August 2026 fell in Leo. An annular one follows on 6 February 2027 in Aquarius. Then 2 August 2027 in Leo, and 26 January 2028 in Aquarius. Four in a row on one axis.
The second is age. Your own node comes back to its birth sign every 18.613 years. If you were born in the 2007 to 2009 window, this is your first node return. If you were born in 1989 or 1990, it is your second. Readers of charts call those years turning points. The number behind them is plain: it is how fast the Moon’s tilted path swings around.
What this point is, given that it is not a thing
The north node is not a body at all. It is the place where the Moon’s path crosses the Sun’s path.
The Moon circles the Earth on a tilted track. The Sun traces its own line across our sky each year, and readers of charts call that line the ecliptic. Two circles that are tilted to each other cross at two points. The north node is one. The south node is the other, directly across.
So nothing sits there. It is a junction, not a planet. Two roads meet and the corner is empty.
Hold the standard picture in mind for later. A birth chart is a house with twelve rooms. Each room covers one part of life. The planets are the furniture. The nodes are a line ruled through two facing rooms.
Two ways to place the node, and they disagree
There is a fork here that explains most of the confusion online.
The mean node is a smoothed average. It ignores the Moon’s small wobbles. Its speed is fixed at 0.052954 degrees per day, always backward, never once pausing. A full trip around the twelve signs takes 18.613 years. One sign takes 566.5 days, every single time.
The true node follows the real crossing point, wobbles included. We sampled it every six hours from 1900 to 2100. It moves forward 25.9 per cent of the time. One sample in four. You will read that the nodes are always retrograde. That is true of the mean node and false of the true node.
We also measured the gap between the two. Sampled daily across the same two centuries, the average gap is 0.96 degrees and the largest is 1.98 degrees. Under two degrees, always. So the two agree on the sign except near a border, which is exactly where people get confused.

Three readings come straight off that table.
The stays are not equal. They run from 542 days to 616 days. The mean node promises a flat 566.5 days and never delivers it. The spread comes from the Moon’s wobble.
The two methods can be weeks apart. In 2007 the true node arrived on 14 December. The mean node waited until 7 January 2008. A baby born on Christmas Day 2007 gets Aquarius from one app and Capricorn from another. Both apps are right. They answer different questions.
And the current pass started 22 days before the mean node caught up. Anyone born between 27 July and 18 August 2026 sits in that gap.
December 2007, when the node crossed the same line three times

The true node entered Aquarius at 21:45 UTC on 14 December 2007. At 09:16 UTC on 16 December it slipped back into Pisces. At 04:39 UTC on 18 December it entered Aquarius again and stayed for the next twenty months.
So the border was crossed three times in four days. For about forty-three hours in the middle, the node was back in Pisces.
Anyone born in that short gap has a true node in Pisces and a mean node in Capricorn, and every popular chart site will hand them a third answer. We scanned the whole stretch from 1940 to 2045 at fifteen-minute steps to make sure we caught it. That December is the only such event for this sign in those 105 years.
The other end of the line is always Leo
The two nodes face each other. There is no exception and no room to argue. A north node in Aquarius means a south node in Leo, at the same degree.
That makes this a reading of one axis seen from the Aquarius end. Aquarius is the sign of the group, the system, the idea that outlives the person who had it. Modern readers draw one line from that pairing. The worn groove is being the centre of the room. The growth edge is building something that works without you in it.
Three traditions, and they do not agree
Here is where most pages go quiet. There is no single view of the nodes. There are three, they are separable, and they were written centuries apart.
The Hellenistic reading: a gauge of strength
Vettius Valens, writing in Greek in the second century, knew the nodes well. In his work and across the wider Greek tradition, the north node adds and the south node subtracts. A planet near the ascending point gains force. A planet near the descending point loses it.
That is a rule about the strength of planets. Valens wrote nothing about life purpose and nothing about past lives. The Greek names are traffic signs, not verdicts.
The modern karmic reading: a soul with an errand
The version you meet on social media is younger than most people assume. It grew out of a meeting between Western charts and Indian ideas in the late nineteenth century.
Martin Schulman fixed it in English with Karmic Astrology in 1975. Jan Spiller spread it far wider with Astrology for the Soul in 1997. In that reading the south node holds what a soul already knows, and the north node marks where it should now go.
Applied here, the story runs like this. The Leo south node is a long habit of being seen, praised and centred. The Aquarius north node asks for work that belongs to the group. The Vedic reading: two shadow planets with full rank
Indian charts give the nodes a rank the West never gave them. There they are Rahu, the north node, and Ketu, the south node. They count among the nine grahas, alongside the Sun and the Moon. They rule signs, they run long periods, and whole charts are read around them.
One more difference matters for you. Indian charts use the sidereal zodiac, measured against the fixed stars. Western charts use the tropical zodiac, measured from the spring equinox. The two have drifted apart by about twenty-four degrees.
Take twenty-four degrees off a tropical Aquarius node and you land in Capricorn most of the time. So a person with a tropical north node in Aquarius has, in an Indian chart, Rahu in Capricorn and Ketu in Cancer. Same sky, different ruler, different sign. Which of the twelve rooms does it land in? We counted
The sign is shared by everyone born in the windows above. Millions of people. The room is not. That one needs your birth time and your birth place.
People ask which house an Aquarius node falls in most. Nobody answers with a number, so we ran the count.
The method, in plain steps. We drew 400,000 random birth moments from inside the Aquarius windows between 1950 and 2010. Each draw got a random clock time and a random spot on Earth. Latitudes were weighted by where people actually live, which puts most draws north of the equator. For each chart we worked out the true node, worked out the rising sign from local star time and latitude, then read off the whole sign house. Each chart was counted once, in one room only.
Of the 400,000 draws, 399,703 held a node still inside Aquarius and were kept. The rest fell a few arc minutes outside and were dropped. The twelve counts add up to 399,703, and the shares add to 100.00.

The rooms are not filled evenly. The top sits near 9.9 per cent and the floor near 5.9 per cent. That is a spread of about 1.7 to 1.
The cause is not mystical. Signs do not rise at equal speed. At the latitudes where most people are born, Leo and Scorpio take much longer to climb over the eastern horizon than Aquarius or Pisces do. More people are born with Leo or Scorpio rising. The node sign is pinned to Aquarius here, so the rising sign alone decides the room.
One honest correction. We reran the whole count on a wider window, 1900 to 2100. There the 7th house came out at 9.85 per cent and the 4th at 9.84 per cent. One hundredth of a point apart. So we are not ranking those two. Treat the 7th and the 4th as tied at the top. The wide gap down to the 11th and 12th held on both windows, and that part stands.
How close does the node sit to your Sun, Moon or rising sign?
Same 400,000 charts, one more question. We used a single eight degree orb and counted each contact once per chart.
Pure chance gives 4.44 per cent for any of these. Sixteen degrees out of three hundred and sixty is 4.44 per cent.

Read that table with care, because two of its rows say nothing.
The Sun figure and the Moon figure both sit on chance, and both moved when we widened the window. We are claiming nothing from either.
The rising figure is different. It sits well below chance, and it barely moved between the two windows. It holds for the same reason the house table tilts: Aquarius climbs over the eastern horizon fast, so few people have an Aquarius rising sign at all. Reading the placement without the fear
Strip out the drama and something plain is left.
The old groove is Leo: the warm centre, the applause, the room organised around one person. The growth edge is Aquarius: the shared project, the rule that works for everybody, the credit spread thin on purpose.
Both readings, the old one and the modern one, land on the same practical point. Being liked will not settle this chart.
