Uranus in Scorpio zodiac sign illustration for the 1974 to 1981 generational placement in a natal chart

Uranus in Scorpio: The Stay Is Shorter Than Seven Years

Uranus in Scorpio is a date of birth, not a character trait. Uranus needs 84 years to circle the zodiac. It stays in one sign for years on end. Every baby born in that window gets the same placement. That makes it a marker of a generation.

Most pages stop there. This one goes further. Uranus does not give each sign the same number of years. Its Scorpio stay is one of the short ones. We measured all twelve, and we give you the exact dates below.

The exact dates when Uranus was in Scorpio

Uranus first crossed into Scorpio on 21 November 1974. It left for good on 16 November 1981. Between those two dates it stepped back out twice and returned twice. That back-and-forth is normal for a slow planet. A planet looks like it moves backward when Earth passes it, the way a slow car seems to slide back when you overtake it.

Here is every crossing, to the hour, in Universal Time.

Date of the boundary crossing What Uranus did at that moment
21 November 1974 First entry into Scorpio.
1 May 1975 Stepped back into Libra.
8 September 1975 Returned to Scorpio.
17 February 1981 Moved ahead into Sagittarius.
20 March 1981 Slipped back into Scorpio.
16 November 1981 Final exit into Sagittarius.

The whole span runs 6.99 years. Uranus sat inside Scorpio for 2,393 of those 2,553 days. The other 160 days it was next door. If you were born in one of the gaps, your Uranus is in Libra or in Sagittarius, not in Scorpio.

That is why published tables disagree with each other. Count from the settled entry of 8 September 1975 and you get 6.19 years. Count from the very first crossing in 1974 and you get 6.99. Both numbers are right, and each one answers a different question. We give you the crossings so you can pick the one you need.

Why Uranus crossed the same line three times

Uranus never truly reverses. Earth is the faster of the two, and it laps Uranus once a year. During that lap, Uranus appears to slide backward against the stars for about five months. Astrologers call that stretch a retrograde period.

When a retrograde period lands on a sign boundary, the planet crosses the line, backs over it, and crosses again. That happened twice at the edges of Scorpio. It gives some birthdays a sign that flips depending on the year. A person born on 1 June 1975 has Uranus in Libra. A person born on 1 June 1976 has Uranus in Scorpio. Fifteen months apart, different generational sign.

Popular pages round this to 1975 to 1981. That misses eleven months. Anyone born between 21 November 1974 and 1 May 1975 has Uranus in Scorpio and is told they do not.

You are 44 to 52 years old if this is your placement

Do the simple sum. The window opened in November 1974 and closed in November 1981. In 2026 that puts the Uranus in Scorpio group between 44 and 52 years old. The oldest turn 52 this November. The youngest turn 45 this November.

This is the cohort that met the home computer as teenagers. It met the first wave of public talk about abuse, therapy, and money. Those are Scorpio subjects. We come back to what that means below.

Uranus does not spend seven years in every sign

You will read that Uranus spends seven years per sign. That is a rough average. It is not what the sky does. The orbit of Uranus is an ellipse, which means a squashed circle rather than a true one. The planet comes as close as 18.28 units of Sun distance and goes as far as 20.10. That is a spread of about ten percent.

Closer means faster. So the signs Uranus crosses near its closest approach get a short visit. The signs it crosses on the far side get a long one. Uranus was closest to the Sun in May 1966, while it stood in Virgo. It was farthest in 2008, while it stood in Pisces.

We measured every stay across ten full orbits, from 1600 to 2440. Here is the mean length of one visit, sign by sign.

Sign of the zodiac holding Uranus Mean length of one visit, in years Shortest and longest visit measured
Aries 7.66 years 7.18 to 7.99 years.
Taurus 7.30 years 7.12 to 7.91 years.
Gemini 7.07 years 7.04 to 7.09 years.
Cancer 6.69 years 6.21 to 7.01 years.
Leo 6.40 years 6.16 to 6.95 years.
Virgo 6.37 years 6.14 to 6.93 years.
Libra 6.47 years 6.15 to 6.94 years.
Scorpio 6.51 years 6.18 to 6.99 years.
Sagittarius 6.89 years 6.27 to 7.06 years.
Capricorn 7.19 years 7.10 to 7.90 years.
Aquarius 7.57 years 7.16 to 7.98 years.
Pisces 7.60 years 7.19 to 8.00 years.

Read the gap between the top and the bottom. Aries gets 7.66 years. Virgo gets 6.37. That is a difference of fifteen months. Scorpio, at 6.51 years, sits in the short half of the table. The Scorpio group is smaller than the Aries group for that reason alone.

Our own most recent Scorpio pass ran 6.99 years, which is the longest Scorpio visit in the whole 840-year window. So the 1974 group got a wide door by Scorpio standards. It still got less time than any Aries group.

How rare is Uranus in Scorpio

We drew three million random birth moments across ten full orbits. Then we asked where Uranus stood in each one. Uranus lands in Scorpio in 7.797 percent of them.

Now watch what a narrow window does. Take only births from 1950 to 2010, which is what most modern samples use. Scorpio jumps to 10.918 percent. The figure grew by two fifths, and the sky did nothing. The window did it.

Window of birth dates used for the count Share of charts with Uranus in Scorpio Number of charts drawn for the test
Ten full orbits, 1600 to 2440 7.797 percent 3,000,000 charts.
Narrow window, 1950 to 2010 10.918 percent 3,000,000 charts.

The narrow window is worse than it looks. Across 1950 to 2010, Uranus never once entered Aries, Taurus, or Gemini. Those three signs score a flat zero. A sample like that cannot tell you how common any Uranus sign is. It can only tell you about sixty years of sky.

How we got these numbers

We used the astronomy-engine library for every position. Dates and hours were both drawn at random, not just dates. We used the tropical zodiac, the one that starts at the spring equinox. We ran three separate random seeds of one million charts each and pooled them.

The three seeds gave 7.798, 7.849, and 7.745 percent. They agree to within a tenth of a point. Our twelve counts add up to the three million we drew, and our twelve shares add to 100.000 percent. Boundary crossings were pinned by halving the interval until the answer settled inside one minute.

What this placement is not

Three claims circulate about Uranus in Scorpio. All three overreach, and it is worth saying so plainly before we get to the reading.

Claim you will meet on other pages What the sky and the record actually support
It makes you intense and secretive Roughly one person in thirteen alive shares it. No single trait survives a group that size.
A Uranus in Scorpio woman reads differently from a man A chart holds no gender field. The placement is identical in both.
Uranus spends seven years in every sign Stays range from 6.14 to 8.00 years across our ten-orbit measurement.

The first claim is the one that does the most damage. A generational marker describes the weather everyone stood in. It does not describe who you became while standing there.

What Scorpio does to Uranus

Think of your chart as a house with twelve rooms. Each room is an area of life. The planets are the furniture in those rooms. The sign tells you the style of that furniture.

Uranus is the piece that will not match the set. William Herschel found it in 1781, using a telescope he built himself. No one before him had seen a planet nobody knew about. Astrologers gave the new planet the job that fitted its story: the break, the jolt, the thing that will not sit still. Our page on what Uranus means in a chart sets out that job in full.

Scorpio is the sign of what is hidden. Money that is not yours, bodies, shame, control, and the things a family does not name out loud. Our guide to the Scorpio sign and its traits covers the ground. The matching room is the eighth, and our page on the eighth house explains why.

Put the two together and you get a break in what was buried. Liz Greene reads outer-planet signs as the mood of an era rather than a private trait. Stephen Arroyo reads them the same way, as the weather a whole cohort grew up inside. Both would say the Scorpio group did not choose this. It arrived with the era.

The years match the reading. Between 1974 and 1981 the public conversation about therapy, addiction, abuse, and hidden money changed shape in much of the West. Personal computing arrived in the home in the same stretch. Those are Scorpio subjects meeting a Uranus jolt.

Hold that loosely. A correlation across seven years of history is not proof of a cause, and honest astrology says so. What the era does give you is a shared reference point. People born in one Uranus sign grew up reading the same headlines at the same age. That much is simply true, and it is the solid part of any generational reading.

The useful question is narrower than the usual one. Not what does Uranus in Scorpio make you. Rather, what in your life broke open around a subject the rest of your family kept quiet. That question has an answer. The first one does not.

Which planet rules Scorpio, and does it matter here?

Scorpio has two claimed rulers. The older tradition gives it to Mars, the planet of drive and conflict. Modern practice gives it to Pluto, found in 1930. A ruler in astrology is the planet said to run a sign, the way a landlord runs a building.

For this page the ruler matters in one way only. Where your Mars and your Pluto sit adds detail to the Scorpio part of your Uranus reading. Neither one changes the dates, and neither one changes your sign. The dates come from the sky, and they are fixed.

Is Uranus in Scorpio in 2026

No. In 2026 Uranus crossed from Taurus into Gemini and stayed there. On 15 September 2026 it stood at about six degrees of Gemini. Nothing about 2026 involves Scorpio.

The next entry is 3 November 2058. Anyone who wants to greet that ingress in person should plan for it now.

Why people say Uranus is exalted in Scorpio

Search results ask this a lot, so here is a straight answer. Exaltation is an old scheme that names one sign where a planet is said to work at its best. The scheme was built for the seven bodies the ancients could see. Uranus was not one of them, because it was found in 1781.

Some twentieth-century writers offered Scorpio as a modern exaltation for Uranus. Others offered Aquarius, and some offered none at all. There is no agreement and no ancient source. Treat the claim as a suggestion from one school, not a rule. Our page on the outer planets and their role explains why the old rules fit them poorly.

The sign is shared, the room is yours

Everyone in your school year shares this sign. What splits you apart is the room Uranus landed in. The room depends on your birth time, down to the minute. That is where a shared marker becomes a personal one.

Room of the chart holding your Uranus What the Scorpio break looks like in that room
First room, the self you lead with A presence people read as intense on sight.
Second room, money and self-worth Sudden swings in what you earn and what you value.
Third room, speech and near neighbours A blunt voice that names what others skirt.
Fourth room, home and roots A family secret that broke open and changed you.
Fifth room, play and creation Creative work that goes to dark places on purpose.
Sixth room, daily work and health A body that reacts fast to stress and to change.
Seventh room, one-to-one bonds Partners who arrive suddenly and rearrange you.
Eighth room, shared money and depth The strongest fit, and the most exposed one.
Ninth room, belief and distance A faith you had to tear down before rebuilding.
Tenth room, career and reputation Public work that touches taboo ground.
Eleventh room, groups and friends Circles you join hard and then leave hard.
Twelfth room, the hidden side A private life that stays private by choice.

Three things to do with these dates

Start with the boundary check. If your birthday falls within a month of any date in the crossing table, your Uranus sign is uncertain until someone runs your exact birth time. Two people born on the same calendar day can land on opposite sides.

Next, find the room. The sign is shared with millions. The room is not. A birth time accurate to the quarter hour is enough for most charts, and the closer the better.

Last, look at the angles. An angle in astrology is the gap in degrees between two planets, and a few specific gaps are read as meaningful. Uranus close to your Sun or Moon makes the placement personal in a way that the sign alone never does. That is the step most free reports skip.

Where Uranus in Scorpio sits in the chain

Scorpio is the eighth of the twelve signs. Our guide to the zodiac signs sets the order. The group just ahead of yours has Uranus in Libra, from 1968 to 1975. The group just behind has Uranus in Sagittarius, from 1981 to 1988. If your birthday sits near a boundary date above, check both.

Frequently asked questions

What years was Uranus in Scorpio?

From 21 November 1974 to 16 November 1981. Uranus dipped back into Libra between 1 May and 8 September 1975. It dipped into Sagittarius between 17 February and 20 March 1981.

How old are people with Uranus in Scorpio?

Between 44 and 52 years old in 2026. The window covers seven birth years.

How long does Uranus stay in Scorpio?

Our ten-orbit measurement gives a mean of 6.51 years. Visits ranged from 6.18 to 6.99 years. The most recent visit, 6.99 years, was the longest in the set.

What does it mean if your Uranus is in Scorpio?

You share a generational signature with everyone born in that seven-year window. On its own it says little about you as a person. The room it falls in, and the angles it makes to your Sun and Moon, carry the personal part.

Is Uranus in Scorpio rare?

Slightly less common than average. Across ten full orbits it shows up in 7.797 percent of charts, against 8.333 percent for a perfectly even split. Aries reaches 9.095 percent.

Which house is best for Uranus in Scorpio?

No room is better or worse. The eighth is the closest thematic match, since Scorpio and the eighth room share their subject matter. A close match is not the same as a good outcome.

When will Uranus return to Scorpio?

On 3 November 2058. The visit after that begins in the middle of the twenty-second century.

Does Uranus in Scorpio affect Scorpio Sun people more?

Not by itself. What decides the strength is the angle between your natal Uranus and your personal points, not whether your Sun shares the sign. A Scorpio Sun born in 1977 does carry both, which is a real overlap rather than a rule.
